Default Disabling Windows XP Automatic Updates

This question is for you computer savvy gentleman (not ladies because everyone knows girls are stupid when it comes to computers).

For the first time ever, I am unable to turn OFF automatic Updates for Windows XP Professional. This just happened recently when I updated my virus program. The sneaky cons at Microsoft are not even allowing me to turn Automatic Updates off if I choose to, and are forcing me to install their shitty updates.

Here is what it looks like:

I'm the only account on this PC, and it would appear that I am the Administrator.

Start>Run, type services.msc and hit return.

In the window that opens, look for Automatic Updates, right-click on it and select 'properties'.

Click the 'stop' button in the bottom half of the window.

You should see 'Startup type' above the button you just clicked, change it to 'disable' if you want to totally kill the updates, or change it to 'manual' if you still want to be able to get updates from the Windows Update website.

Click the 'Apply' button.

'Jack-off' vigorously.

Something is fucking with your computer policy... if you could open up local policy editor you could probably find this setting there... or there might be a setting in there to "disable automatic update options" which might have been toggled by your new antivirus, etc.

But yeah, for the easy fix? Stop the service.

You are the king. It worked. I didn't even know services.msc existed.

This was perfect timing too because Microsoft started to install the updates eventually on their own, but hitting the 'Stop' button in services.msc put that to a satisfying halt and interfered with the updates installation.

THANK YOU!
