oh, and I remember liking Wave Race 64 at launch. The water effects blew my mind.

You can crank up the waves to level THREE! (the fourth setting was Random...) And you could ride a dolphin! A DOLPHIN!

It was pretty much the only thing I'd consider a game that was ever made for only the XBOX. Everything else I didn't really call a "video game." So when it came out, it was pretty much a launch title.

Eeeeeeehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh........... I greatly disliked Tekken Tag Tournament, but then again, I just don't like Tekken games. This doesn't really mean they're bad, it just means they're off my radar for things I consider good launch titles. PS2 had games like Oni and The Bouncer...... Ugh.

kapeesh?
I would think that any game with good graphics would require that the developer had at some point FOCUSED on the graphics. Capisce?

To really kapeesh this:

Any games developer that focuses more on graphics than they do gameplay is bound to make a shitty game.

I totally agree. I would have preferred something more realistic but this turned out to be a fantastic looking game. I liked that effect where a purple plume of smoke would puff out if you killed a guy. The graphics were nowhere near looking "like dogshit."

It's ridiculous 'cause all they want is for some poor kid to trade in his PS2/Gamecube (or even worse, 360 or DS) just so they can have an overload of used systems to sell during holiday season. I went ahead and already sold my GC (kept the games though) on eBay for about $60 bucks. They want this because they know they won't even have enough systems at launch (exactly what the ad says too-pre order not guranteed on launch day); so what's the next best thing to sell? A bunch of marked up GC's, PS2's, 360's and DS's. I guess I will have to get to Best Buy early then....

Here's another 'horror story.' There is a small-time game chain here called Game Shack. We went into this one downtown to look at GBA games and my brother saw a used Bionic Commando for GBC. He had recalled enjoying the NES version and decided to buy it. When he got home the game froze at the beginning every single time. We went back and the owner, this real asshole, and after waiting around for 20 minutes said okay he would look at it. It froze of course and we asked for a refund. He said no way. We then asked for store credit to buy something else. He said no way. He told us he'll track down another copy of the game and we had to wait. So my brother called them up several times over a few weeks and they finally told him they couldn't find another copy. So we went in again and the asshole owner finally agreed okay okay you can have store credit, as if he going against his firm policy and doing us a favor. So my brother said didn't really like anything they had but settled for Sim City and said "Ok I'd like this GBA game and I will play the difference." The owner goes "No, that's a GBA game. You can only get a GBC game." I told him "What the fuck, money is money!" He FINALLY said Ok ok and let my brother get a GBA game and pay the diff, but treated us like shit as if we were trying to pull a scam on him. Man, that store is terrible. Can you believe that?!?!

I bought this at launch and really enjoyed it, played it all the time. The GC sequel never lived up to the original and I've barely played it at all. A game with really impressive water effects is Super Mario Sunshine.

Are you expecting Wii to be really understocked? I thought they had made an announcement that some number of millions of units would be available by the end of 2006. DS Lite wasn't that hard to get and I assume there were less units available on launch day? Also, why not pre-order at EB rather than line up at BestBuy. And do BestBuy take pre-orders? They have with movies.

Well, Gamestop itself is expecting to be understocked with a statement like that. EB is now owned by Gamestop, so I'm almost certain that they are going to follow the same rules. I don't know, I'll find out Monday for sure how the pre-order is really going to happen.

Edit* Yes, there are supposed to be 4 million Wii's shipped by the end of this year, so it should be (more or less) readily available.

Damn I wonder if EB in Canada will now start to have shit policies if Gamestop bought them out. I've only shopped at EB a few times, when I've wanted to pre-order something, and never had any problems with them. If the item's not going to be scarce I'll just go to BestBuy (or Futureshop if they have a better deal.) I thought it was weird when the guy told me they're accepting pre-orders on Wii games but not Wiis. I went to their american website (they don't have a canadian one) and signed up to an email list for Wii updates, hopefully Canada's EB will put it on pre-sale the same time US does.
