my dad smokes alot, but i have yet to gather up the courage to talk to him about it...

he had a talk about it with my sister not too long ago, and she said he was really emotional & was saying that he felt like it made him a "bad father", so i dont want to bring it up and make him feel wierd...

i'm not particularly close with either of my parents, but my dad studied the same thing i'm studying now in college so i at least have that to relate to him with

I'm real close with my mom, but its only been in the last 7 years since I've been so far away from her. We talk on the phone every few days and sometimes we'll yack for a solid hour. My mom and I have a lot in common when it comes to music and movies so I trust any reccomendation she gives me and vice versa. I've always been a momma's boy though...

my dad? he hasn't really worked in the industry in which i plan on working since the early 80s...so maybe he has some old friends, but i doubt it. once he got his bs in electrical engineering he got an mba and is now in sales in latin america

my dad and i get along pretty well, whereas my mom and i aren't close at all. My dad is from a different era - pretty quiet, timid and old fashioned, though he's fairly easy to get along with. He's getting old-he turned 68 this year and i worry about him.

I've never met my father. I thought some time back that when I got to be around 21 or 22 I'd take the initiative to meet him as I know where he lives (like 5 blocks from my work). I don't even have the desire to now.

My mom can be totally crazy sometimes, but we're really close and have a friend type relationship. I'm thankful for that because all of my girl friends have terrible relationships with their mothers.

i get along really well with my dad, but at times we're so similar that we can be pretty nasty with each other.

lately, my mom and i have gotten along better. i think my talking to her and being honest with her about christopher and how i feel helped open that up a lot. my mom also comes to me for help with my sister, also asks me advice occasionally on what to do.

but i'm really more of a daddy's girl. like my mom says, we're two peas in a pod.

my dad tries to communicate with me and I tend to ignore him. My mom and him got divorced when I was 5? He was in rehab for the first half of my life, and then after he was out of rehab he was drinking again (my mom had to pick him up from the police station a few times for wandering around drunk). Then somehow he ended up in a halfway home where he lived for about 5 years and has been living on his own since I guess I was a senior in highschool. He can't drink now becuase his diabetes is really bad (which he got from drinking/drugs in the first place) and he uses a walker or two canes because he has devloped neuropathy from the diabetes. He now also has a kidney disease and at one point earlier this year it was a question whether or not I would need to donate one of my kidneys to him. But I guess I don't

Anyway, I don't know him and I grew up not really caring. My mom never told me bad things about him, but he just wasn't ever around so I never grew to love him. Then all of the sudden he wanted back into my life and I was supposed to magically love him? Then he got sick and I felt (well, feel) so guilty for not really caring. I don't want him to be in pain but I still don't LOVE him and I don't feel comfortable spending time alone with him.

What the fuck? This thread sucks.
