The visuals were pretty cool, yeah, but it couldn't even keep my attention. I don't think I've ever seen a movie with less of a storyline. This was purely made to shut the fanboys up about The Spirits Within (which was a better movie, although that's not saying much either)

you must not have been paying attention dude. advent children exceeded my expectations on so many levels, although i don't disagree with you abot there not being much of a plot (ie three gay bikers trying to clone sephiroth by stealing his dna, and along the way kidnap a bunch of kids with lifestream disease/aids ) but i thought it was brilliantly executed. the visuals and action scenes were staggeringly cool. the surge of sheer nostalgia that swept over me when "the gang" show up to beat the shit out of bahamut was fantastic. even though the film was clearly a nostalgia trip, more than anything, i found it very satisfying and it did have a good ending. also, advent children has basically set the new benchmark for what animated characters should look like- tifa is inhumanly hot, she melted my tv. don't tell me the film couldn't keep you interested with that shit going on!

oh yeah, and the spirits within was not final fantasy at all, just the name. i don't think it really compares to advent children, i certainly didnt enjoy it nearly as much.

You know I might actually watch it again. I only ever had a crappy DivX version of the film that was in Japanese so I could never watch it on a TV or anything (I don't know how to ******* subtitles on a disc, I only know how to watch it on the computer with subs) but I assume there's a better version available now?

Which version do you have?

i like how the only thing these knuckleheads can say when they see totalitarianism/dystopia in film is to observe how...orwellian it is

I think on just the action sequences and visuals alone it should be ranked in there somewhere. Sure is the most dangblasted pretty movie I've seen all year. The last 20-30 mins are just a complete skull-fuckery-do of crazy shit happening, motherfuckers jumping off motorcycles and pulling apart swords and gigantic fucking Neo-Bahalumnt attacks and things looking nifty. Hell, just the way frame arangements would play out, or how something cool would reveal itself, make it worth a look just from a visual standpoint. I watched Spirits Within recently after watching Advent Children, and visually speaking the flick just mopped the fucking floor with its predecessor.

I only watched the fansub myself, too, and I still loved the hell out of it. going to pick up that DVD someday. soon. really.
