Something special in the sky tonight

Tonight's full moon will appear bigger and brighter than any other this year.

According to the Web site www.spaceweather.com, the oversized look of the moon is a result of its lopsided orbit. One side of the moon's orbit is about 31,000 miles closer to Earth than the other.

Tonight, the moon is at ``perigee'' … a Greek word for the closer orbit, meaning ``close to Earth.'' Its opposite is ``apogee.''

The moon will rise in the East around sunset, which is 7:19 p.m. tonight.
