Exclamation How good is the extended LOTR DVD?

I'm gonna watch it for the first time tonight. Is it worth the extra sit-time?

I was trying to figure out what DVD to play while cleaning the apartment, thanks for helping me decide!

it doesn't add too much to the film overall, but many of the scenes do add to the story, I think it is worth the extra $$$

They aren't really that necessary, just little things that you could go without, the new intro involving bilbo was ok though.

The hidden council of Elrond with Jack Black is quite humorous.

If you're a LOTR nerd it's cool to watch. If you're not, it's just hours of extras that you may never watch. But too much is better than not enough with DVDs.

I loved seeing the special effects stuff. But be warned that some of the magic will be ruined. I have no regrets though, it's really cool.

it's great. i liked it more than the regular edition. i never found it dragged on at all. some new stuff (read: the cloaks from lothlorien) actually featured somewhat prominently in two towers, and though they explained it breifly in TT it definately helps to see it in the original context. the extras are also quite cool.

i think it'll be interesting to see what they do for the extended edtion of two towers. they can't very well change the drastic storylines back to the way they were (in the book), nor can they ******* the large part of the story (again, from the book) that they left off the end of film. i came around on two towers (i was very pissed off about it at first), but i don't think the extended can deliver (once more, compared to the book) in the same way extended fellowship did. here's hoping i'm wrong though.

It's definitely worth the $10 extra.
