Angry Dammit.

US is sending 2000 troops into the Philipines to combat Muslim terrorists. That was one of my options for the Peace Corps, and I really wanted to go there I don't think we'll be out by the time I go

The phillipines is really bad. A bunch of my pals went there and it was really scary for them evidently. I think this is prolly a good thing, there are too many people dying over there. But wait, I thought this was about oil.

it's about the US sticking its big dick wherever it fuckin wants to.

Peace Corps is different than just travelling there... you are not in touristy areas and there's not a bunch of you so you aren't a likely target.

peace corps is a federal program. They keep close ties to the government in order to ensure the safety of the people that work for them.. it's not like some church sending people out to colonize the savages.

i hope your not implying anything about my friends.

Peace corps is a good thing. So are missions. Helping people is a good deal whether it's motivated by secular or religious intentions.

Speaking of religious missions in general, not specific ones that your friends are doing (because of course they're not doing ANYTHING but what's motivated by God and Jesus to save the souls by showing them how to brush their teeth and drink clean water), if it's motivated by religious reasons, their primary reason for doing it is getting heaven points by getting these people to convert. Helping people raise their standard of living is just a positive side effect.

Another big reason I didn't do a religious mission is the safety factor. They tend to be not as welcomed by the countries and not quite as watched-out for. there's a higher probability for incidents when the country hasn't necessarily invited them in and is monitored by a federal intelligence agency.
