Default help needed from spanish speakers

hello

i have an assignment to get a list of all the faculty at Monterey Tech (in Mexico) and to also ******* their pictures in the list if that's possible. the problem is that i don't know spanish, and i don't know if facultad really means the same thing as faculty, etc, ect.

if you know spanish or understand the mexican education system, could you help me out? i would appreciate it so much.

thanks!

liz

okay, i have a legitimate question now:

http://www.mty.itesm.mx/profesores/daf/dir_carrera.html

Directores de Carrera translates directly to "Directors of Race", but that doesn't make a lot of sense. Can anyone explain what Directores de Carrera means? Everyone in the list seems to be a lawyer associated with their Division of Administration and Finance.

also, i don't think Licenciado really means lawyer. could you translate that, too?

In this case, carrera means "program." Those are the program directors. Education systems are different in each country, but in Mexico "licenciado" is a type of degree. It means liscensed, so the first link takes you to the profile of the director of the liscensing program for business administration, ie. the business school dean (probably).

I'm 99% sure on this, but you may want to check with an actual Mexican to verify.

thank you jinkas. :] that was really helpful. i am doing this for the dean of our business school, so your translation makes a lot of sense. maybe irridescent fairsex can give his seal of approval when he sees this.

that leaves me with another question:
your response makes me translate this lady's (
http://www.mty.itesm.mx/profesores/d...en_garcia.html) position as
Director of the Licensing Program in Right OR Dean in Right
do you know what that means?

"Derecho" here means "law." Dean of the Law Program. Better to just call the licensing program the program: business program, law program, etc...

This wikipedia article might be of some help. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ITESM

"The Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Studies (Spanish: Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey or ITESM) is a national university in Mexico founded in 1943. [...] In addition to the main campus in Monterrey, Mexico, the ITESM network currently *******s over 30 regional campuses throughout the country. [...] It consists of academic department rather than faculties.

Those academic departments or divisions, http://www.mty.itesm.mx/profesores/home.html, are the equivalent of faculties.

A 'Carrera' is what you would call an academic major or program. A 'Carrera' is the same or represents a 'Licenciatura' which is a Bachellor's degree.

You do understand that the 'Directores de carrera' (program directors) are not the directors of the department/faculty right?

There are 5 departments/divisons/faculties at ITESM, each department is responsible for various programs.

Administration and Finance Division. (Division Director: Salvador Treviño Martínez)
  • Business Management Program (Program Director: Ana Mariela Quiroga Treviño)
  • Finance Administrarion Program (Program Director: Luis Eugenio De Gárate Pérez)
  • Law Program (Program Director: Aydeé del Carmen García Arzabala)

Electronics and Information Technology Division (Division Director: Carlos Fernando José Jaimes Pastrana)
  • Information Technology and Communications Program (Program Director: Graciano Dieck Assad)
  • Computer Technology Program (Program Director: Elda Guadalupe Quiroga González)
  • Administration of Information Technology Program (Program Director:
    Leticia Almaguer Flores)

... and so on.

Wisconsin...but I lived in Bolivia for two years as a missionary and now speak near-fluent Spanish. Hopefully I was mostly correct on the translations.
