Default If you shoot yourself in the head, does the bullet pass completely through your head?

I am talking about the barrel being flush with the side of your head. Will the bullet pass through and continue out the other side or does it end up inside your head.

I assume it would pass completely through the head.

i think generally it would go through if the gun was pressed to the side of your head.

unless you like pull a bow and arrow to the side of your head of something.

interesting point.

If someone were to shoot you point blank, meaning an inch or so away from your head, with an arrow, fired from a normal bow, not a crossbow, would it penetrate your head. And if so, how far would it travel?

isn't it recommended not to press the gun to the side of the head but instead leave about an inch of space between the gun and the head

Depends on the caliber of the bullet, but more than likely you're just going to get gibs all over them.

What she said.

Some bullets disintegrate into tiny pieces on impact...for that reason - if they shoot someone and it does go through the person it could hit someone else...so sometimes you don't want that.

So if you're going to shoot yourself and you're planning on doing it on a subway train, definitely go for the hollow points.

i wont mind if anyone has experience with that. it would be more comical than disturbing.

it'll be an interesting world when bow and arrow becomes a top suicide option.

i think if you got shot in the head at point blank with an arrow, then it wouldnt be as nasty as if you put some distance behind it, because i reckon that the arrow will take a few seconds to accelerate to a deadly speed. but then, i could be completely wrong. wheres legolas when you need him eh?

Accidental, suicidal, and homicidal injuries have been caused by arrows fired from crossbows. To our knowledge, a case of suicide using a full-size compound bow to fire a projectile has not been reported in the English literature. Described is a case of a 17-year-old man who shot himself in the chest with a broadhead hunting arrow fired from a compound bow. Examination of the footwear suggests that the decedent drew the bowstring with his left foot while holding the bow in his hands. The mechanism of injury is discussed. When dealing with a longbow-related fatality, examination of the weaponry used and reenactment of the fatal methodology are critical in determining whether self-inflicted injury is a probability.

Thumbs up

it's a generally accepted idea that different types of guns often require different types of bullets.

Same again, you get a bunch of different types of bows and arrows. You get some really heavy duty compound bows and really nasty looking jagged arrows for hunting, im pretty certain the tip of the arrow could at least make it through your head, but the drag from the shaft would probably cause it to slow and stop.

Nowadays even normal arrowheads look like tiny sharp bullets.

Yes, but the same gun can use a variety of bullets too, within that calibre.

So, if we want to say it depends on the gun, sure, we could be a bit obscure and talk about the bullets, which in turn would imply a difference in gun too. But being direct is fun and safe and good for you too.

I'm not much on guns but I do think it's more about the bullet - considering some bullets are made to go through the target and some aren't...which I believe was the initial question here.
