I decided to post on here today in hope that this would change some peoples hearts and give them courage to try to change Memphis for the better. My fiancee and I have lived here for about 5+ years. We moved away for 2 years to go take care of my grandmother... We just recently moved back and its almost like nothing changed other than more buildings being built. The crime is the same, if not worse... It's almost like time stood still here lol... anyway to get to what I'm trying to say is that I feel that Memphis (the WHOLE community including EVERYONE if you are SOMEONE that lives in Memphis) NEEDS to take a stand. Because if we don't the WHOLE city is going to go down! I feel that the community as well as the police could do more. People need to stop closing up shops because there scared of getting robbed. I understand that they are trying to keep themselves safe and probably there customers too but if we just keep backing down then eventually there will be no where to back down to. We need to stand our ground! I mean you hear about little 5 year old kids getting shot on the news... What kind of messed up shit is that? What ever happend to being able to let your kid play in the back yard in the sand box and not have to worry about someone shooting him or her. And if this town is so boring for kids that they need to join a gang to have something to do or "acceptance" then we have a problem that we need to fix. I mean stop building so many buildings and build more parks. We need to get the crime off the streets. We are talking about our future and the future of our kids. And it needs to start somewhere. And yes, It's going to take more than one person to make a stand before anything happends. When I hear people on the news that got there store robbed or whatever and they refuse to leave because that would just make the criminals win that gives me encouragement that Memphis may someday change. I want to be able to live in a city where everyone is friendly and trys to help each other out, and you dont have to worry about walking to your car at night, or even walking to your car in the daytime, or taking your kid to the park or whatever fear people may have. Maybe I'm asking for too much or have too big of a dream but then again you never know. And yes, I do know that there is crime everywhere. But I do not feel that there is a reason for it and I think that it may help if we stand our ground. Because if the criminals or the people who are doing this (the people that think its okay to shoot little kids or anybody for that matter, or rape people or hurt someone physically) see that we are making a stand where are they going to go? What are they going to do? Because there will be nothing left for them to do.
I hope this helps at least 1 person make a stand but remember it may start with 1 person but it takes more for anything to really happen. And if you are that one person dont give up! "Don't let the Fear of striking out, Keep you from playing the game." also another thing that might help is for our local churches to get more involved with the kids of the community and projects. |
