what are the reasons that the US supports Israel?

I'm ignorant of the formation of Israel and why we love them so much. Someone please enlighten me in the most objective way possible, rhetoric aside.

Did the US actually take land belonging to the Muslims to make Israel?

i've always heard this "jews control the media" remark, but where does this come from? maybe i'm not seeing the obvious, but i've always taken the media's lack of objectivity (if you will) regarding Israel as a result of laziness, not bias.

I wouldn't say that - we have always helped Israel regardless of political leaders.

I wouldn't call JFK a fundamental evangelical and he was staunchly pro-Israeli.

I see your point, but America was not overwhelmed with evangelicals when we began throwing all our support for Israel. In that same token, less than what - 55 percent? - say they are evangelical Christians today.

There are lots of lobbies with particular intrests that have a huge effect on American policy foreign and domestic that really only have the support of a small minority of people.
