Default Wicker Man - the movie, the soundtrack, and the remake. Have you seen the original?

The movie - I think this is geniunely one of the best horror movies I've seen. I don't want to ruin anything for anyone who hasn't seen the film, but it's not a straight forward horror film.. It doesn't really have any gross murders, scary music or jump moments.. but it's still fucking great. I think it's a movie everyone should see.

I will admit that the first time I saw it I knew nothing about it and through most of it I was going 'this isn't a fucking horror movie'

The soundtrack - it's mostly cheesy scottish folk type music. Again, the first time I saw the movie I was laughing at it, but as I saw it more often I was laughing with it. "Corn rigs and bonny rigs and.. corn rigs are bonny!" - at the acoustic night I used to go to in glasgow, some people did the 'in the woods there grew a tree, and a fine fine tree was he' song

I would upload the soundtrack if I had it anymore. I need to download it and recommend you do. 'Summer is a-coming in' is awesome, and it fits the end of the film so well.

The remake - I just saw the ad for it for the first time. I wasn't looking forward to it in the slightest because I knew a woman was going to play the updated Christopher Lee part, and the Edward Woodward part is to be played by Nic Cage. After seeing the advert, I don't like how they've tried to make it 'hollywood freaky' and put in lots of sinister shots and music etc.. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't ever going to watch it though, even if it will just be out of morbid curiosity.

I also noticed something interesting in the trailer - the part played by nic cage, the updated Neil Howie is called Edward, and Rowan Morrisson, the girl who Neil Howie was searching for is now called Rowan Woodward. A little nod to the original I spose.

It's my favourite movie of all time! I saw it first when I was 10... (my mother is incredibly responsible lol). I cried at the end .. I was so angry! I had no idea there was going to be a remake.......meh... now you've made me slightly uneasy ya big poof.

i think making purposefully bad remakes of good old films is a whole industry in hollywood. i'm sorry if that sounds obvious, but what i mean is taht they prolly make more money off a bad remake than they would off a good one. with all the free (bad) press and hype given to bad remakes by fans of the original movie. and people willing to see the bad one just out of curiosity. i'm prolly talking shit. it's friday, i'm gonna shutup...

I know what you mean.. I doubt they're purposefully bad though, I think it's people without ideas who go.. you know what would be good, if we remade classic film X that doesn't need to be remade.

I think they generally remake films that have already done well or been subject to lots of press (the omen and texas chainsaw massacre for example)

Someone at my work asked me if I'd seen texas chainsaw massacre and I said yes and they started talking about the remake. Argh. I love the original of that movie, the scene where the bloke is in the van with them talking about braincheese, and then he cuts his hand open, that is some freaky shit.

A great, timeless atmospheric horror movie.

Lots of insight into the freaky world of the Scots

If recent remakes are any guidline it's certain to be a disappointment.

Will Nick Cage be ex-special forces, haunted be a bad shooting? Will he fuck everyone up in the slam-bang final set-piece gun battle? Will he escape along with the pert, innocent young co-star to the accompanyment of a driving hip-hop soundtrack? Will the (undoubtably) volcanic island blow itself to smithereens just as he does so? Shudder...

Good points, I think Ving Rhames will be in it as a diamond thief who gets killed suddenly on the island somehow. I think the final scene will be Lady Summerisle flying away from the island in a helicopter with Killing in the Name of playing.

Its one of my very favorite movies. Christopher Lee rules all in it.

I'll probably see the remake eventually, but it does look a bit too "Hollywood." I doubt it'll have nearly the same coolness the original had. (No quirky soundtrack, no gratiuitous nudity, etc.) Plus, it seemed like they gave away half the plot/surprises in the trailer. I'm afraid that this version is going to overexplain things to the point that you can't help but know what's coming at the end. But maybe I'm just biased because I love the original so much.
