Default Guitar geeks, I need your help

I'm considering a double muff, it will be my first pedal [I don't think zoom505 II counts].
I have a really crappy amp [150W Audio dynamix] and I'm using a cortx2.
Should I forget about the pedal until I get a better amp?
Can you guys recommend me an amp and a pedal that would sound good without any other pedals?

Please help this equipment-tard get some direction.

afaik, regarding the normal muff, billy never used it live because it sounds pretty shitty live

its fun to piss about with, but I would recommend getting a more versatile pedal if you're wanting a dedicated pedal, have you had much experience playing with a fuzz pedal before? you can't get that many different sounds out of em

last time i was looking everyone was recommending an ibanez tube screamer as a versatile pedal

You could always try a ProCo Rat for a similar sound but more on the distortion side of the spectrum as opposed to fuzz... this would hold up much better live, too.

Also, what I find really nice into a cheap amp, is a Marshall Jackhammer pedal. Turns any shit old amp into a screaming Marshall-esque monster, or at least a decent caricature thereof. I know that doesn't sound convincing but it's a pedal that is very 'friendly' to cheap crap and good amps alike.

Steer clear of the DS1. Perfect example of the "biblical tone" - i.e. swarm of locusts.

As for the amp... what's your price range? And what style?

Cheap shit: Fender FM212R. Nice solid clean. Dirt is shit. Put a pedal in front of it, you got yourself a sound.

Midrange: I own a Marshall DSL401. I like it. It's better than a ValveShite and way better than the MG series. Not as great as a JCM800 in the distortion category, but has a halfway useable clean - and if this is for Pumpkinsy stuff, you'll want a clean, Billy loved the jingly jangly stuff. Also in this price range, the Fender Hot Rod Deluxe... again, distortion is bollocks but throw a pedal in front and it comes alive.

Higher end: ENGL Screamer/Thunder. Same amp, less controls on the cheaper of the two. Sounds NICE.

Also there is a cheapo Tube Screamer. The TS7 - with the push-down knobs. Has the sought after JRC chip inside. Metal construction. Judging by our price here, and the exch rate, just about in your price range too.

Thx brendo, you're a great help. My price range is definately cheap shit. At least I've got a better idea of what to look for now.

$40 for a ts7! Yay! What does it sound like? What does it do to cheap-ass amps?

Get a nice small valve amp then crank it.

tweak tweak tweak, I use my Muff live and it's beautiful, Massive sound. Playing it with deep reverb is also dreamy.
