Default Anything to do in Salt Lake City?

I'm going to Salt Lake City for a couple days for work starting tomorrow. I hear it's a pretty crappy town. Anything worth seeing or doing there besides finding myself 3 wives?

ummm I was there a couple years ago. are you going to be downtown? There isn't a whole lot to do. There are some alright shopping areas and some bars that you'll find if you wander around.

the streets are huge and there was hardly any traffic while I was there so it seemed rather eerie. But it's an incredibly clean city and I felt very safe. I didn't have a car or anything so I was kind of restricted to walking distance from my downtown hotel, which was a block or two away from the convention center. There was one street near there that had a lot of stores and a mall in it. Also futher away was an outdoor mall that was pretty nice. There are some larger night clubs, but we stuck to smaller hole in the wall bars because the drinks were cheaper.

You could go on a tour of the great salt lake, a couple of my friends did that and they seemed to enjoy themselves. Also, you probably wouldn't want to, but the Kennecott copper mine is outside of Salt Lake City and it's the largest manmade hole in the ground (you can apparently see it from space but I have never actually been to space). They have a little museum/movie/tour thing. They can also give you a tour of the processing facilities and you get to see how copper is extracted from the raw material. They even gave you a little piece of raw copper in the end, heh.

Sorry I cant help you out more. Honestly we just wandered around and went into places that seemed cool. Nothing really stands out.

Yeah, downtown. Doubt I'll get out of the city limits at all.

That seems to be the answer I'm getting most. I'm not looking forward to the trip.

All I remember was being told not spit, curse, smoke outside marked areas, and that bars wouldnt serve us if we didnt belong to their "drinking club". Have fun.

bars will serve anyone (shit I had a fake ID and I had no problems), however the draught beer will be a lower % alcohol which is some local regulation. If you get bottled beer, it will be the regular %--it even has this blue sticker on it that warns you that it's against the law to remove the sticker. I would stick to the smaller local bars though, they seemed like a lot more laid back. However, we went to this dance club the last night--it was fun, it was 80s night. There were all these young (it was 18+ but there was a bar upstairs) hipster kids in ridiculous 80s clothing going nuts dancing. I stood out pretty hardcore and I was competely sober but it was still a blast.

I was also never approached by any mormons to convert. OH---and tell me if you agree with me about this when you get back--all the girls there are gorgeous. It was very intimidating for me but I think you will enjoy it.

I've heard that, too. We'll see, I guess.

And women almost always seem to be hotter in other cities than your own. It's weird.

call me up and ill smoke you out or something. there's plenty to do here. just depends what youre looking for. the music scene here is awesome and there are lots of decent clubs and bars to hang at. my neighborhood is 20 blocks from downtown and its got the sex shops and head shops and tattoo parlors and whatnot. i reccomend brewvies. its right downtown and is a 21+ indie movie theatre where you can drink and eat in the theatre. pool and smoking and all that outside at the bar. no hard liqour there, but the food is awesome (the falafel roll is mmm) and the black bean egrrolls. if you wanna hang while you're here pm me or something.

The city is full of sexually repressed homosexuals. These people are like animals if you can get them in bed, but I don't think that's really going to help you much here.

PS this was a serious post, I'm not kidding.

I'll have to say thanks but pass on the smoke offer- I'm rooming with my boss and I don't dare take any chances with him there- but I'll pm you to hang out if you're up for it. Thanks!

Squatter's Pub Brewery, the two-headed lamb, Hobbitville, Saltair (which is supposedly haunted), and The Tree of Utah (25 miles or so west of Salt Lake City). And you can also hang out with noyen, which I wasn't able to do because my husband fucked that up.

Hey there, man... I live down in Provo but go up to SLC to hang out sometimes. A cool little area in town is called Sugarhouse - it's kind of the hipster neighborhood. There are some pretty rad vintage clothing stores as well as a few good CD stores. If you have a car, you should go check out 2nd Spin, it's a used CD store that has a pretty good selection most of the time. Say hi to the day manager, Rhett - he's pretty much the nicest guy in the entire town of Salt Lake. Mention my name, he'll know who I am if you mention me in conjunction with SP and Laura.

I'm Mormon - so I don't do the bar scene, but Noyen sounds like he knows what he's talking about. I have heard that movie theatre with the movies + food is pretty fun, though.

I guess if you've never been to Salt Lake and want a general tour that's free and informative, going to Temple Square and checking out Mormon history really is worthwhile. You may loosely get harassed by the missionaries running around there, but they're kids our age at the end of the day, so if you just let them know you're there for the info, they won't pester you too badly. Really, though - the tour is pretty informative, and I think information is something that's sorely needed with a faith that is bogged down by rumors and heresay. You can walk around the Temple and see the huge place where we have our world conferences, etc.

I won't be around for the next few days - summer school finals - so I'm kind of overloaded currently, or I'd offer to hang out.

Hope that Mormon stuff didn't weird you out - it's just something that lots of folks like to do when they're in Salt Lake just so they can say that they've checked it out.

Hope you enjoy the trip, man.

Thanks for all of that.

We're at the convention center, so in the least I'll go check out the temple since it's a couple blocks away.
