Just like Night of the Living Dead/Dawn of the Dead. Corpses rising from the ground to feast of the flesh of the surviving. This would be a truly disturbingly awesome development. Everyday would be a mad struggle to survive the onslaught of dead people. Boarding up houses, stockpiling weapons and food, banding together, fighting off raiders, trying to keep the species going. I think the morbid thrill of something like this actually happening would almost be worth the terror and early death. It’s ironic that I love zombies so much, given that they are the walking incarnation of the human fear of death. Ugly, savage, and inescapable.

Oh fuck yeah! This is the ultimate conflict between man and monster. There would be nothing cooler to just look outside the window one-day and see the whole sky erupt with black moons and saucers, completely indistinguishable from nightmare. Aleins in this sense represent the fears of the human race with respect to technology and the devolution of the soul, whether 'civilization' is about progress or pretense. I'd imagine, in all practicality, this to be a quick death. Though there are many different ways this could shake down, depending on what the alien agenda is (harvesting, extermination, take over, science project).

What if someone built a big enough E-bomb to knock every single electronic device on the planet out of commission? As soon as such a device would explode, absolute anarchy would ensue across the globe. Everyone would be equally blind, and we'd see just how thin that line seperating humanity from savagery really is. It's actually a bigger threat for a localized level (say, all the United States) than is considered by most people.

Although the sun is not capable of exploding in its current state, it will one day swell to be a red dwarf size, engulfing the earth within it. It’s one doomsday scenario that would be impossible to survive. Just to have the comprehension of something on that magnitude happening, and let that stew for the several minutes you'll have to live before the entire planet is destroyed, would be a privilege.

ooh good thread. my money is probably on global plague or a supervirus. i think robot uprising is also likely, but if it ever happens, a massive EMP pulse might be the only thing to save the day. zombies are just about the most unfeasible horror concept i can think of. aliens are probably too smart to give a crap about us. the meteor possibility is the most immediately frightening to me, probably due in no small part to numerous disaster movies.
i think humanity will probably have colonized some other area of prime galactic real estate before global warming totally bones us. if a nuclear war broke out, i think the military powers involved would have destroyed each other long before they'd managed to entirely obliterate the rest of humanity. i don't know what the temporal paradox is but it sounds cool.
