I don't know why Apple even bothers to advertise anymore. The people who buy their products do so religiously and nobody else cares.

Exactly.

The only people I still see using them are people who are into high end photography or video editing and that's all.

Holy fucking shit I hate those commercials. It's everything I hate about corporate advertising rolled into one campaign. I feel this Penny Arcade describes how I feel better than any words ever could:

macs are just better computers. they have better memory management, they're *nix based (os X at least) they dont crash nearly as often as wintel machines, they look cooler, and they're inexpensive.

the only reason people are so insane with their pc's is because they're so used to using them, so it's hard to switch over.

Yes, I agree. Apple is a better company selling a better product. But this campaign is really, really awful. That's the beef I have with them.

Wrong, wrong, wrong.

"Wintel" machines are not crash happy at all anymore with the advent of Windows 2000 and XP.

That Macs look cooler is debatable and in any case totally irrelevant.

And inexpensive? Nigga please.

except for the fact that my pc crashes about 3 times a day

yes, inexpensive. try getting me a pc that's equally as good as a new i-mac for cheaper or the same price, chances are you'd only be able to buy the flat panel and the dvd burner before you'd go over budget.

Just cuz you don't know how to install an OS or you choose to install buggy software, don't blame that on PCs. And according to the Apple website, the iMac with the DVD burner (which i neither want nor need) is $1,900 bucks. Shit, i could get a damn fine real computer for that price and it wouldn't have a puny 15" monitor or look like a lamp from Captain Picard's ready room.

True Apple has had a better track record with stable OS's however with XP available that advantage is no longer there. Currently my XP here at home has been running for 78 days without a restart, that's a lot better than the way it used to be on my system of 5 or 6 days with Windows ME or 98.

As for Apple's advertising, theyhave historically been consistent making crappy an ineffective commercials. They need to learn from Dell, get some idiot teen who looks funny to sell their stuff then they'll be rolling in the money.

look at volkswagon, they're like the apple of the car world. Hell...the commercials are the same.
their sells have gone up tremendously.
but maybe selling cars is different.

but you still couldnt multitask for shit. Cubase, wavelab, reason, and pro-tools gonna run in conjunction at the same time on a PC? bwahahahahahahahahah no

PC's are cool because you can upgrade easier and blah blah blah.... you buy a $1200 computer, buy a new sound card, buy a new graphics card, buy more memory, maybe buy a better monitor, buy a dvd burner, etc and you'll end up spending $1900 all together by the time shits done anywho.

Spend $1900 and buy a beefed up dual processor G4 and upgrade absolutely nothing and still have a far more powerfull computer. That's the appeal of a mac.... you buy the shit and pay a little more but your computer remains ahead of the PC curve for quite a while.

if you could say it like penny-arcade, you wouldn't need penny-arcade.

Are you kidding? How do you spend $1200 on a bare-bones computer? You seem to be confused - the appeal of the mac is that you pay more money and get a nice friendly machine that looks pretty.

some people use their computer for more than downloading porn, playing games, and trading mp3's likely requiring much more than you are used to.

Wow, you sure got me there! You still haven't explained how you rack up a $1200 bill for a case, a mobo, a processor, a psu, a HD, and a CDROM. But then, since you consider multitasking between a few tracker programs to be 'intensive' you'll probably buy anything if it's considered cool enough.

I was just at CompUSA and I decided to check out the Macs for shits and giggles. They had an eMac right next to the new style iMac. I thought that the eMac was actually a very nice little machine for the money. The flat panel display on the iMac was sharp but too small. Plus that thing just looks really retarded. I wouldn't buy a Mac in any case but like i said, the eMac isn't too shabby.

The one Mac product that I really, really do like are their displays. Man, I would trade a kidney for one of those 22" Cinema Displays. Just beautiful.

I didn't really think Macs had that many good games, but after checking their website I found that most of the games I'm currently playing are on the Mac. I'm more of a casual user--I only use the PC for gaming, word processing, music creation/editing, and the internet. I might have to check out one of the cheaper Mac systems, though.

Question

I love my Mac too.

Just a question for Mac users: what program do you use to download music etc? I used to use Aimster but that's gone now, so what is the best program to use?

I consider it to be fairly intense considering PC's flat out cannot do it.

I used to use Limewire, but it tends to suck these days. I just tend not to download music anymore on my G4. By the way, I have a Titanium G4 iBook. Compared to my old IBM ThinkPad.... there is NO comparison. The Titanium is completely kickass. OS X w/ Photoshop and InDesign ownzeth me.

At least you're being honest.

That you have no idea what you're talking about.

I'm guessing you've tried this on a PC and a mac and are able to compare?
