Thumbs down Well, looks like USA doesn't want any friends at all in the world.

Obviously taken from the National Post.
I have no problem with Americans... but I do have a problem with the burning of our flag; we just don't do that kind of shit. I don't give a fuck who wins a hockey game - that's just wrong.

---------------------------

New York mob torched anthem singer's Maple Leaf

Bruce Arthur
National Post

Days after being cheered as he sang the Canadian and American anthems before an NHL playoff game in Toronto, Robert Pomakov watched, horrified, as unruly New York hockey fans burned his Canadian flag in the parking lot of Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

Mr. Pomakov, an opera singer, saw both his Canadian and his Toronto Maple Leaf flags torn from his car and set on fire by a crowd chanting "U.S.A! U.S.A!" in the moments before Sunday's Game 6 between the Leafs and the New York Islanders.

"We lost four of our soldiers and they were basically defending these idiots," said an outraged Mr. Pomakov. "If patriotism is what drives these people and their ignorance, then I am ashamed to have our soldiers defending them."

Four Canadian soldiers were killed in Afghanistan on April 18 when a U.S. fighter plane mistakenly bombed them.

Mr. Pomakov, 21, is working on his masters of opera degree at the world-renowned Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, from where he drove to Long Island for Sunday's game at the Coliseum, which is named in honour of U.S. war veterans.

He and fellow Torontonian Patrick Magee, also 21, decked themselves in Team Canada and Leafs jerseys and attached one regular-size Canadian flag and one Maple Leafs flag to broomsticks on their rental car. After being heckled as they pulled into the parking lot before the game, they could only look on as both flags were set alight.

"I was just shocked," he said. "There's a line that needs to be drawn, and this was so far across. You can't believe that you're watching the Canadian flag burn.

"There wasn't much we could do. There were a lot more of them than there were of us."

Mr. Pomakov felt the Americans' treatment of the Canadian flag was disgraceful.

Mr. Pomakov said the flags incident has not soured him on life in the United States. Still, he was pleased to see Toronto's Game 7 win on Tuesday, which set up a second-round Battle of Ontario series with the Ottawa Senators that begins tonight in Toronto.

Whatever the feelings of Torontonians toward the seat of federal government, or of Ottawans toward the seat of national commerce, the anthem is quite unlikely to be booed during the series.

They should be held very responsible for it. This is at the worst time for Canada, when American idiots bombed us in Afghanistan. Precision bombs my ass.

(sorry for putting 'your')

Personally I don't care. I don't expect much from them. It just goes to show how ignorant they are. Fucking septic tanks.

I have lived both in America and Canada, and I don't really care for either. However, I would love to live in Victoria again, but then again, Canadians are much uglier and pastier looking.

Dude, don't take it personally. EVERY country has at one time burned the flag of another. It's just people being stupid. Whether it's Americans, Canadians, or whatever.

People burn american flags all the time... boo fucking hoo.

Also you need to do research on what happened with the canadian bombing.... it wasnt a missle that went off target... the US jet saw a group of armed soldiers that were not recognized as allies... the pilot meant to hit that mass of people... the Canadians failed to announce their coordinates before conducting their mission which is a huge military no-no.... cause a mass of armed soldiers looks the same to an f-16... bad situation but could have been avoided.

the only thing more cliche than hating canada is hating america

Yes, but Canada has, honestly, done nothing to offend America. We have signed NAFTA (a stupid move), we have taken part in military defence plans, we have allowed 25% duties to be slapped on lumber that AMERICANS WANT TOO CHEAP. Shit happens, eh?

As far as I can see, it wasn't that Canadians didnt' follow procedure, it's that they didnt' follow AMERICAN proceedure. You aren't the goddamned world, you know. There are countries outside of those piddly borders.

NAFTA is a wreck, so Candadians and everyone else involved in that created the mess. and if i'm not mistaken, brazil, england AND canada have a worse history of riots involving nothing other than fucking sports. wooweee. americans burned someone else's flag for a change. gawd, WHO FUCKING CARES!

that "procedure" has been military procedure since the late 10th century. It's called the "wingman" concept. If one person or group goes somewhere they inform allies so military actions will work around it. In midevil time generals would announce troop movements to allied forces so when they saw a big mass of people on the horizon they new to expect friendly forces coming and not to attack.

And one of the reasons we tax your lumbers is because your country can get away with things we cant. Same situation with wheat... your country can use cheap pesticides our country cant... so its cheaper to buy wheat from you and have it shipped than it is to buy our own.... in order to keep the working class of america up we have to tax it to equate to ensure our unemployment rate stays down.

That's simple economics... you take care of your country before you worry about another.... if we wanted to be picky we could lift the tax on your wheat and say you can't use this pesticide.... then all of your farmers would go completely broke meeting our standards.

Most of our 'farmers' are American agrifood companies now. It's just recycled money from foreign ownerships. (and yes, the Canadian government is the one to blame, I know) But our environmental adherances are quite more in line with those of the world than USA, so don't get down my back about pesticides. We didn't fuck the Kyoto treaty simply because we want to drill in Alaska and bend over for the oil companies.

gawd, you ARE taking this way too personally. i wasn't even defending america, but your points of argument were as full of air as your head is, bitch. and just because i live here doesn't mean i care for it. most of my life wasn't spent here, but who cares about that either? and if canadians don't spend the money to be able to be in the warpath adequately, then that's their own fucking mistake. stop whining.
