i had a pet rock named billy

i found him one morning while waiting for the bus. He was near a telephone pole and i only noticed him because of his beautiful colours. i picked him up and felt how smooth he was and thought to myself, "now this is a cool rock!" i entertained the thought of taking him with me, but he was a rather large rock and i was on my way to work so i just let him be. The next morning i looked for my rock, but didn't see him where i had left him, i glanced around the telephone pole and found him on the opposite side where i had left him. i thought that maybe someone else had picked him up and wanted him for the same reasons i did. i knew that i couldn't take him with me because i was on my way to work and that i'd always be on my way to work when our paths crossed at this spot so i decided i'd put him in a spot where only i'd know. i found a grassy area near a billboard sign and placed him so i could see him from the sidewalk...it was our special spot. Every morning while waiting for the bus i would walk up to my rock, greeet him and rub his smooth surface. Every morning for 3 weeks i repeated this ritual until today that is. Today when i reached the bus stop i noticed the grassy area had been mowed and i immediatley went to our special spot to check on my pet rock. What i found in our special spot was an indentation where he had sat for the past few weeks and 4 or 5 pieces of my pet rock scattered around the area. i picked up all the pieces i could find and put them inside the hole where my pet rock had laid and picked a handful of dandelions and put them around his shrine. On my way back to the sidewalk i found another piece, a perfectly shaped and smooth piece of my pet rock billy. i tucked this reminder of my pet rock away in my pocket so i'll always be able to rub his smooth surface whenever i'm feeling down.

i had a pet leaf once.

my 1st or 2nd grade class had us all make a replica of a pilgrim house using a shoebox, and as i was walking home from school i decided to let a pretty orange leaf live in it. of course the leaf was already dead, so that didnt last very long.

in retrospect, a rock wouldve been a better choice. but they hardly compare to leaves in terms of beauty... unless theyre some kind of super amazing rock, such as amethyst
