You know, I've found and picked up hermit crabs AT the beach. Is it really necessary for one to buy them if one could just catch them in the wild?

Of course, all the ones I've found are small and pale while the ones at the store are all more big, hardened and red/blueish.

I got one of those when I was in North Carolina one summer. I named him Elvis and later donated him to the science program at the school where my mom works. I'm not sure if he became a classroom pet or was dissected.
