Default Joy Division "Ceremony"

Someone please convince me that the Joy Division version of this song is at least decent. I love New Order's version but I just downloaded a Joy Division version that's awful. It's just recorded really poorly. I don't know what it's off of (length is 4:21).

Anyway, someone upload an mp3 of the best version of this song please. I'm sure they have at least one good recording of it, right?

if i remember correctly, someone said there was a studio demo on the heart and soul box set, which i still have yet to buy, for some reason.
the version that's on the album 'still' is live and the first verse is missing because the mic is off (you can faintly hear it, actually)
unoffically, there is also an audience recording of that show (05/02/80) and the soundcheck, which doesnt' have the beginning of ceremony cutu at the beginning of the show, plus (of course), the performancei n the soundcheck.

i would wager that there are probably only 4 recordings of the song in existance given the time frame when it was performed/was written. the two different recordings of the actual show on 05/02/80, the soundcheck and then the studio version.
so as far as 'best' version, i don't think there's really a lot to look for.

Ha! The 4:22 version is on the new order's 7", and bernard sings on it too (at the "movement" time, he sang like Curtis). I love that version, the intro, when the drums enter, gives even more chills. If you go to http://www.netphoria.org/forums/show...threadid=13278 you can read my post about this and the 3 new order versions. I'm also yet to listen to the box version of it. But as distance said, maybe your are listening to an awful live recording as the "still" one (that as an amazing 24h in the 2lp version).

the version on Heart and Soul is from a rehearsal and it sounds awful.

i don't think the version on 'still' is awful.
'still' definitely isn't the best joy division show (maybe 01/18/80?).
but it's still one i enjoy listening to.

i really need to get an LP of 'still' sometime. i am pissed they didn't ******* twenty four hours on it. they could have cut like sister ray or something instead

Finaly re-cleared up the mess with different versions (in continuation with the other thread)

http://www.worldinmotion.net/neworde...1/ceremony.htm

That's why my 12" sounds the same as Substance, it's the 4:22 version, re-recorded with Gillian. Oh, that 4:21 version by Joy Division on Heart and Soul box doesn't sound that great... The version to get is the 4:34 (only available in vinyl), that sounds completely different. You can find it in mp3 with 4:40, because someone had it running slower, you can find also another 4:57 (as killtheyouth mentioned before thinking it was the 12" version) mp3 version but it's the 4:34 running even slower.
