Thumbs up

um, i have the 2 cd where'd you learn to kiss this way set, you shouldn't have much trouble finding it on soulseek, and i think it's still available.

I love the field mice. It's not that their songs are that special and outstanding, but being a Belle and sebastian admirer, i love their socalled twee pop style. Don't really expect B&S, the field mice are more 80ies style, with the particular sounding drums. They're said to be the link between B&S and the Smiths, but i've never heard anything by the Smiths to be honest.

And something else: their regular releases are almost impossible to get...

They normally eat grains and burrow their homes into soft dirt or sand.

They sound nothing lilke the Smiths, and some of their songs are outstanding. The FM were formed in 88, and put out a shitload of stuff on sarah records, becoming their big band, and then formed into Northern Picture Library in 93 and then Trembling Blue Stars in 96. The double album is split into electronic and acoustc discs. Do a search for Shinkhasen and you can get a copy for like ~$20 shipped. It might be reissued in a non-cardboard sleeve, as it sold more than the 5,000 that they were aiming for. It's all from the various releases, so nothing new. I think they're one of the best Shoegaze bands out there.

The sound ranges from pop songs to electronic excursions. If you want i have kazaa or can send you them on a hub or my ftp. Might want to also check out Alaska and Still Life by Northern Picture Library, especially the tracks Paris, Last September's Farewell Kiss, Skylight, and Truly Madly Deeply. TBS is a hell of a lot more depressing, which i happen to like. I have some of their stuff on my computer too, though non of the albums since I have copies.

suggested reading for patrick:

http://www.twee.net/bands/fieldmice.html
http://www.shink.dircon.co.uk
http://www.tbstars.co.uk

it's easy enough to find their records on ebay or musicstack, it's the generally ridiculous prices that are the problem. i can make you a cd of their stuff if you want.

you should check out the hit parade, if you can. im not sure that they dont seem a little more up your alley. they sound like wham covering the beach boys, if the beach boys had been an underground british band in 80s and 90s. they had a few releases on sarah, but their better material came out on vinyl japan and is still available. if jenniferkate ever makes you that field mice cd, PM me and i will make you a hit parade cd.
