Question quick question about ovens!

the oven in my apartment has a pipe of about an inch and a half in diameter venting the oven out underneath one of the rear burners of the stove. like you can see right down into the oven from above, and heat escapes. it will get up to temperature, though. i've never seen this before, but perhaps most ovens just have the vents hidden somewhere else. or something. i'm perplexed.

wait, i didn't ask a question. umm, does anyone know what the deal is?

The oven vent releases hot air and moisture from the oven, and should not be blocked or covered. Doing so will cause poor air circulation, affecting cooking and cleaning results. Never set plastics, paper or other items that could melt or burn near the oven vent.

On coil element models, the element can be used when the oven
is in use as long as the cookware does not extend more than 1 in. (2.5 cm) over the element.
