Thumbs up Guitarist Discussion (Gear freaks)

A topic for gear heads

I'm starting a new pedalboard since my rack effects died. (Digitech Valve FX)

Whaddya think:
So far i have: Korg DT-10 Tuner,Dunlop 95Q Wah,Boss SD-1,Sustain Punch Creamy Dreamer,70s Original NYC Big Muff,Ibanez TS9
Just bought these on ebay for $80:
MXR Phase 90 R28 mod,Boss BF-2

Here's how i want it completed:
Guitar > Korg DT-10 > Dunlop 95Q > Boss SD-1 or TS9(As a boost for my Marshall JMP 100) > Creamy Dreamer or Muff > Electro Harmonix Mini Q-Tron > Boss DD-3 > Amp

Loop:
Send > Boss DC-2 Dimension C > MXR Phase 90 > Boss BF-2

Think the order is ok?
I'm thinking about buying a Voodoo Pedal Power 2 for this setup.

I'd also like to throw a Digitech Whammy 2 in there somewhere.

I've never had a classical or acoustic guitar.

Well I'm just learning, but yeah I dont really like the sound of a classical guitar unless I am playing something...classical...and fingerpicking. Maybe I suck, but no "rock" songs sound good on it. I would have rather had at least an acoustic guitar.

I've always seen guitar threads on this one. The music board seems to be about bands.

i'm not really a gear head.. but i wanna get a delay pedal and i just can't decide on which one to get. i would get an ibanez ad-9 only it's such a standard effect and won't really work for the most crazy stuff..
and with every other pedal it's like they all have something wrong with them:/ why would you recommend getting the dd-3? apart from the fact that boss seems to be the only company making affordable pedals that are also dependable and won't break
if i had a lot of money i'd just go buy the first the best effect, but i'm not so i wanna make sure i don't make the wrong choice

Whenever people travel with guitars they seem to go for classicals - I guess because nylon strings are less vulnerable to the elements. They usually sound pretty good for singalongs though. Have you tried using a pick to get a sharper sound? You could try getting some slightly heavier strings (not much heavier, you have to be careful of the neck), or I think they make different types with coatings and crap which change the sound.

Your best bet really is to go into a music store and ask someone who looks like they might know what they're talking about. Be wary if they try to sell you a set-up though.

And hey, your 1.5 weeks is up -where's your song?!

my gear currently consists of:

1 squier strat with 3-year-old strings that miraculously still sound and play well

1 es-335 copy by Shine that looks great but is sometimes hard to play

1 marshall 50-watt and a footswitch for the digital fx

1 near-dead danelectro daddy-o pedal which i don't use

1 nearly-dead ibanez flanger pedal which i don't use

1 zoom 606 multi fx unit which i no longer use because it sounds like the anguished screams of the inhabitants of the 6th level of hell.

wan monee

That order seems ok. I've never really thought too much about the order of my stuff since I never play shows and I don't really hook everything up in my room.

How big of a difference is there between the creamy dreamy and the big muff?

good choices. I really like the BF-2, i think it rips the pants off of most other Flangers.

You want a DD-3? Im more of an Analog fan myself, and the DD-3 is quite expensive (unless you're Ebaying, but even then its quite dear)
I think if you're gonna buy a DD-3, you may as well buy the DD-5

i'm a big fan of this ... keep that shit simple, keep your lines as direct and short as possible

unbalanced lines + lots of shitty boxes = loss of tone and gain

for the last three years my set up was guitar > boss dd3 > head unit ... there was the odd moment where I would throw my wah pedal into the line before the delay

and when doing stuff in the studio ... ******s setup is exactly they way I like to have it - adding effects post tracking - that way I have very precise control over the effects

it's cool that since the 60's guitarists have been at the forefront of using fx live ... but i think it's very easy to go overboard

The CD has more gain and is a bit smoother sounding. The Vintage Muff is that SP wall of sound. The CD comes close but doesn't quite nail that wall.

I've owned a DD-5 before. I like the backwards delay but i don't really have any use for the extra features.

well, that is what the effects loop is for, but really, i do it out of simplicity, since it's just a big pain in the ass to keep track of powercords, wallwarts, powerstrips, 6" quarter inch cables. it just slowly misplaced all of it until i came back to my roots.

really what i like about it is how free i am to just be as dynamic as i want, because in the end, that's probably your most important 'effect'.

Don't suppose you could record some guitar shit thru your Creamy Dreamer and also your Big Muff?

Just so i can hear the difference.

I'm currently looking for a distortion pedal and i've been contemplating the Marshall Shredmaster,Creamy Dreamer,Big Muff and Pro Co Turbo Rat and You Dirty Rat. Maybe the MXR Dime distortion also.

You should get the Boss Giga Delay pedal, It basically has a DD-5 built into it and you will also turn some heads with it on stage.
It has 5 different patches on it also so can store 5 different variations of delays without having to turn knobs and dials to get the right tone. Though the analogue buffs might bash it cause it is a digital pedal but it really is worth it.

i just got a 360/12 in fireglo - kept in open G - and the thing is just amazing. probably one of, if not the, best american made guitar right now. run this guy through a hot rod deluxe with the reverb going and the sustain is almost infinite.

i also run my tele > Fender HRD.

i used to run everything through a digitech RP-12, but i got tired of everything sounding the same, if i didnt want to spend 3 hours programming a unique sound. I very much did appreciate the whammy though and would reccomend putting one on your board. one day i'd like to experiment with what spquitar is doing and put together a pedalboard of nice stuff.
