Default The Red Wings Management is so lazy

I swear the league has over 150 free agents still and they have released more players then they have signed. And half of them will be playing for the Grand Rapids. The first pre-season game is in less then a month. They need to step it up. Yeah they will still win their division like always but if they play a team like Vancouver, Phoenix, or Calgary in the playoffs......I would have to say it's over. Vancouver isn't worried about the cap. Detroit is for some reason thinking that they need to stay below 25 million. Not sure why. I know they are going for younger players and don't want a lot of veterans but look at all the talent available.

http://www.nhl.com/players/freelist05.html

They still haven't signed Datsyuk and Zetterberg yet. They are still excited about getting Ozzy back. That was 2 weeks ago. They better hurry up.

You seem to have some facts wrong. First, the Wings are shooting for 38 million this year. They're in negotiations with Zetterberg, Kronwall, and Datsyuk, and with what those 3 are expected to make, they should already be close to $38 mil. They simply cannot go out and sign a big free agent, although there is some talk of Bonrda signing. Admitedly, they're a bit handicapped under the new cap, but they're doing much, much better then Colorado or Toronto, and one prediction out of Toronto has the wings second in the west. I think the team is looking pretty good, and some of their acquisitions -while not huge names- are good pickups, like Delmore, who is a very offensively productive defenseman. I think we just need to resign Zetterberg, Kronwall, Datsyuk, and maybe Bootland and we'll be pretty OK. I'd like another winger (we're too stacked at center, imo), but with the cap...

What do you expect with a salary cap? The key for the wings is holding on to Zetterberg and Datsuyk.

Well they need to sign them before they sign with a shitty team like the hurricanes or the panthers. I don't see why it takes them so long to do an easy thing like get a contract done. They have to be the only city inthe world where all four of their major teams waste time and let talent blow away trying to sign one or two players.

I don't think the Red Wings have been guilty of that in the past few years. They were stacked for the season that never happened.

Yzerman is back. Datsuyk will be back. Shanny's still there. I mean come on man, are you mad Brett Hull hit the road or what?

Well the fact the Russian premier legaues are offering Datsuyk $3mil per means the Wings probably have to go at least 3.5mil on him and another 2.5 on Zetterberg (Zetterberg thinks he's worth 3 even). That's alot of $$ to tie up, so obviously there's a bit of a hold going on. As long as they're there by 10/1, I'm fine with it though.

Kronwall needs to be in camp though. They should hurry up with him (Bootland too if they're resigning him).

Red face Blockbuster just in...

Sens trade Hossa and De Vries to Atlanta for Dany Heatly!

Didn't see this one coming. May be a rare deal that works for both teams.

Horrid move for Ottawa. Horrid. I could see considering it just straight up (Ottawa would still be the loser), but to throw in De Vries? AWful.

He played at the World Cup last year and played a handful of games in Russia and Switzerland during the lockout

You have to remember they have the cap to worry about. this frees up some cash which may become useful somewhere down the line.

This is probably the one player Ottawa has though that I WOULD NOT lose. The Red Wings are cash strapped too, but I don't see them trading away Lindstrom.

Hossa's probably the better player, but
Heatly is cheaper, and cheaper is very important to Ottawa right now.

DeVries was also a salary dump on their part.

I think it was a great deal for both teams. The Sens needed to get rid of De Vries (who is overrated IMO kind of like Rivet in Montreal) and his salary and they get Heatley who I believe will go back to his 2002-2003 shape.

Being out west I don't get to see either players much. All I know about Hossa is he's been near the top of the scoring race over the past three or so seasons and the thing I remember about Heatly is the way he dominated the 04 World Hockey Championship. If Heatly can play to his potential I think it'll work out for the Sens. But who knows, maybe Hossa is the player you'd rather have for a cup run right this minute.

it's admittedly a gamble, but you have to remember ottawa STILL hasn't made it to the cup final yet, so they've got to take a gamble. i'd say it's a good move. de vries is over-rated, especially when you look at how many other good defencemen that ottawa has.

Hossa is probably better than Heately, but this trade was essentially Hossa for Heatley AND cap space. If the newfound cap space allows Ottawa to keep Redden and Chara, they'll have to see it as worth it.

The cap really is bad for the Sens though, they have what is possibly the best team in the league and this has forced them to drop their best player for a guy who is pretty damn good in his own right, but still not a Hossa.

Really, it was probably the best they could do, and they really got lucky here that they didn't have to trade Hossa for someone with half the skill of a Heatley. They got pretty lucky in that Heatley was being sold around the leauge.
