A Scanner Darkly

So, I just finished reading this book, and I have to disagree with Dick's proclamation that it is a masterpiece. Dick's writing is strong enough that even though the story isn't that good, it's still pretty hard to put down. The problem I had was picking it up. So many unanswered questions that he seemed to put out there just to taunt the reader.

I know at least one other person has read this. Anyone seen the trailer? It looks pretty cool (especially the scamble suits), but Keanu Reeves? FUCK. I'll still see it though.

Keanu is like the character Brick from Anchorman.

Sorry, I haven't read the book, so I can't contribute meaningful commentary to your thread. I do, however, think the short story "I Hope I Shall Arrive Soon" is one of the saddest and truest things ever written, in English, in the respective year of its composition (sorry, I don't like superlatives).

I really gotta watch "Waking Life" first just so I can wrap my head around the animation / live action style. Then, maybe, read the book. Or, you know, just go see it.

The style of Waking Life is similar to A Scanner Darkly, but ASD looks way more high tech, whereas Waking Life looked all hand-made, which it probably was.
