Default My internet connection has been severed (computer help)

Two days ago AIM stopped working on my other computer. It would not connect. Yesterday my browsers ceased to function. I have checked every wire everywhere, they are all connected, and this computer still works (it is hooked up to the same line) but nothing I do will restore my internet. My mother called Verizon and talked to them for 3 hours and they could not discover the problem. Is there something really obvious we're missing here? Or is my computer just broken?

I double checked to make sure it wasn't my firewall and its not. I've restarted the fucking thing about a billion times. I've scanned for viruses, I've defragmented.... what else can I do??

Check your network settings. My old Windows 2000 machine would periodically forget the DNS server settings.

If you're using an external modem, try restarting it.
