i'd hate to diverge from the thread topic, but i think this is a good opportunity to throw in my 2 cents:

with SP he was wanting to literally save the world. The whole glass/zero thing is further proof - and he even admits that - he put on a persona to do something huge, bigger than himself and the band ... so the band breaks up for whatever reason - its not important whatever the reason exactly is in regard to this statement. anyway, so he's like "fuck this, im just some guy who happened to make it big. some regular dude who enjoys warm tea and watching sports." ... so that persona, materialized through zwan, left him unfulfilled; he hadn't accomplished his mission

thus, he decided he wants to take the burden of "changing the world" and risk himself looking like an ass if he doesnt accomplish such a task. you really cant argue that the band hasnt already (im sure they saved alot of kids in their teen years, gave them an outlet) ...he decided he wanted to carry the cross after all. and he will

so my point is, this is a phoenix rising from the ashes sort of thing. that's why i find it to be the most fascinating time for the band -- seeing as to how there wasn't too big of a chance of it ever restarting.
