Has anyone seen this movie?

Obviously I am interested in seeing it since Bob Hoskins is in it and he appears to be looking pretty sharp (unlike recentish appearances in movies such as Enemy At The Gates)

Anyways, Jet Li and Bob Hoskins. Sounds like a good movie.

My heart is broken thinking of this movie though, because it was mainly (if not all) shot in my hometown of glasgow... and probably while I still lived there.. which means I was stupidly close to Bob

I saw it, it was worth the 10 bucks, but not agood movie, to many plot loops, lack luster fight choreography. Thought one fight scene was really interesting, you'll see when you see it. Sadly the fight choreography of the matrix is far greater.

For a story though it was pretty swell.
Its like Equilibrium, awesome premise, poor execution.
Unlike batman, Jet li actually acts in this one.

How long ago did it come out over there? It's still not out here till late august

I saw a couple of photos of Bob in the white suit jacket.. he's looking hawt again!

I thought after Enemy at the Gates and his combover in Felicia's Journey (which was actually a damn good movie) that his attractiveness was gonna go well down hill now as he is typecast as 'older rough english guy'

GOD THAT MAN IS SO FUCKING HAWT !! WHY AM I CURSED IN THIS WAY!?!?!?

Hoskins is great in it. Beyond great, he's fucking specatular. But the Christ-like goodness of the family that Danny movies in with wears thin very, very quickly. Scenes like Danny testing fruit and discovering the joys of ice cream ain't exactly what I paid my 10 bucks for, y'know? And there's alot of them.

I thought it was pretty good. The chick they had playing Victoria was fucking horrible though. She kind of ruined the film for me.

I managed to download the whole thing last night, I think it's a dvd screener from the comments left about it on the torrent site, but it was listed as a rip.. Either way it had a ton of seeds and it's great quality.

Skipped to a point in it and just saw Bob™ with his face covered in blood shouting at Jet.

Gonna be burnin that shit tonight!

On that note.. Nerovision express best for converting and burning things like this? It's an avi file... I always found I'd get faults with DVDs I burned with nerovision (skipping / blocky parts) even if I burned at the minimum speed.

My DVD player plays mpegs.. maybe I'd just be better converting it to mpeg and burning it straight to dvd? Never done that before.

a dvdrip is simply a rip of the dvd. i don't think you can convert the avi to (s)vcd and then directly burn it to a dvd and then watch it, i think you have to convert it to dvd format, but i'm not sure, i never tried

yeah, what I meant about the rip was that other people made out it was a screener (ie. that it comes up "property of miramax" or whatever every now and then) but I didn't have time to check for that, it's nice quality anyways...

I'm pretty sure I can burn an mpeg straight to disc and watch it in my dvd player, I think my b/f has done it a few times before, it's totally dependant on the player though.

I was just pondering whether it would take longer to convert it to dvd format and burn it, rather than convert it to an mpeg and burn it.

I never have any problems burning movies using Nerovision, even if they're Avi files. You might want to track down some Nero plug-in packs. If you can't find any hit me up on Aim and I'll send you the packs I use.

what exactly do the plugin packs do? :-/ is it just so you can do it within nero without using nerovision?

I'm encoding/burning it on my b/fs pc just now so I'll see how it goes, but thanks for the offer!

ah, i thought you were talking about burning it to a dvd-r, cause i heard that won't work with mpgs.

I don't know what copy I downloaded, but it was hella good. At a couple of points the audio seemed *slightly* out of sync with the video, but it was barely noticeable and only lasted a couple of minutes.

The quality was great and there was no 'property of miramax' or anything popping up.

I thought the movie itself was shit hot. I didn't realise Luc Besson had written the screenplay, and with Yuen Woo Ping doing the fight choreography, I thought it was fucking excellent. Some lovely bone breaking in it almost on par to the snaps in fist of legend! I didn't think the parts with the family went too slowly, partly cause of morgan freeman ( I thought he was great in it) and partly cause it was interesting for me figuring out where in Glasgow each scene was shot.

Jet Li was on form. I thought his acting was shit hot in it as well as the action. Bob was looking sharp in it and was a muthafuckin hard bastard! So tough. It was funny as fuck unintentionally at bits as well. My only complaint was that Bob kept getting fucking injured every 5 minutes of the movie!

anyways, thought it was fucking great, probably part due to my love of Mr Hoskins, but I'd definitely recommend it to anyone.
