How did you first learn about sex?

I mean who first taught you about the birds and the bees and stuff like that. I never got "the sex talk" from my parents - though i did receive the embaressing "what your period is" talk from my mom where she proceeded to show me how to use a inch thick maxi pad (with a spare pair of underwear on her lap , btw). :erm

I found "The Joy of Sex" at our library when i was 11 or 12 - i was shocked and amazed. Our teachers at school only taught us the physical stuff - i had no idea sex was even enjoyable til i found The Joy of Sex.

I was five or six, and I was asking my mom how babies got out of their mom's tummy's and she said she didn't want to talk about it. Later that afternoon she came back with a book by Dr. Spock that was in cartoons and it was very explainatory. Pictures for EVERYTHING. So yeah. She didn't deal with it, she just let me read about it.

I don't remember not knowing what it was though. I didn't know all the ins and outs (LOL!) until about 4th grade, but I've understood the general concept for as long as I can remember.

My parents have never talked to me about it. We're not very open. at all. We're about as not open as a family can possibly be. and that's fine by me.

i remember my mom buying me a book when i was eleven. it came comeplete with transparency overlays showing the different stages of puberty, too. i remember already knowing what sex was when i got the book, but i don't remember how i learned. i probably learned during the summer, because at my cottage i was a good four years younger than all the kids i played with, so they probably told me when was around six or so.
