4 am? killer! the worst is when the birds start singing right before the sun comes up and you've been up all night. nice going on the technicality though! looking at houses... to rent? to buy? man, im glad i'm not looking for places anymore, it took me forever to find my place that i'm renting. this year (2005) i've been working a lot of 50 hour weeks, the workload has increased dramatically, and after i finish this big project, im aiming to have some talks about getting more $. the project is to model several things, one of which is happening for a fact, one of which will probably happen based on an earlier model i made, and one of which is strictly a proposal at this point. basically, they split what was two subproducts for credit into three, each with their own set of rules for interchange rates. certain rates got collapsed into eachother, differently for each product. additionally, the actual rates (some of them) changed. these are changes that are being implemented Apr05. so to model that with existing data is the starting point of this model. from there, i model the second thing, which is cutting one rate out. the volumes get allocated to different rate categories based on which merchant category the rate falls under, and how much the transactions were for, so it involves pulling volumes at the transaction level (for the visa system, which is a ridiculous amount of data). once that is allocated, there is another proposed change. that is to change the qualification criteria of an existing rate, which will mean drastically different redistributions of volumes within rates for different merchant categories, and these are again handled differently for each of the three subproducts. and what is wanted basically is what this means, in terms of $, for each product and each merchant category, at each rate level, and then aggregated. basically, on friday, they said, yeah, do this, and have it ready wednesday, so that we can go to the board with this the following week. its pretty high-pressure, and when i come through, i will have some ammo to justify a raise. no one else is working this hard, and aside from my boss, no one else could have made this model. oh, another thing about the model, the actual % split of the two existing products into three is as of yet unknown (each bank will convert a certain amount of their accounts, and this will change over time), so built into the model is the ability to enter a different estimate for the split between products, and the impacts ripple through. (becaus the rate structure and actual rates themselves vary between these prducts) so the inputs are: kill rate a? (yes/no) change qualification critera for rate b? (yes/no), % split for product b. and it is made such that you can put in any amount of data, and it will work for that, so basically it is applying %splits for the dollar bucketing.. oh, another thing is that given certain scenarious (don't kill rate a, but change qualification rules for rate b), there are certain break-even points between certain rates, so the logic is such that the transactions are qualified for the rate that is cheapest for the merchant. on and another thing is that in order to do THAT, i had to pull the dollar bucketing at $0.50 intervals, which is a query i ran over the weekend and came in to make sure it returned results typing that out actually helped me understand waht i've got left to do, so that was worthwhile Last edited by Liquid-J : 03-16-2005 at 12:30 AM. |
