i would have looked in the phone book first to see if i could get a hold of the person

a lot of times, people know their credit card number and use just that for emergencies

last month i had trouble with credit card fraud - my card was never out of my sight but someone in toronto kept my number - probably after i paid for somthing at a store. then they opened a paypal with it. and then they went to montreal with it - all before i got around to checking my statement what a fucking nightmare.

good for you for not using it - seriously.

something like this happened to me this summer.

i ordered my very first MasterCard online. a few weeks later, i went out of town on a vacation. when i got home, there was a voice msg from MasterCard Security Services regarding some unusual account activity. it turns out that someone stole my card before i even received it. the persons who scammed me blew $997.00 at Home Depot in Mississauga, Ontario.

what i don't understand is how someone managed to activate the card. what personal information does one need to activate a credit card? doesn't it have to be activated from the cardholder's home telephone?

i never found out what happened.

i don't think you have to activate a card from your home phone - come to think of it - whenever i've done it they just said "ok" after you read off the number on the back and everything was a go.

you're lucky they called you , the guy just kept making all these small purchases that added up to around 1800 bucks very quickly on mine.
