Ripping and burning DVDs

hey, my roommate has one of the new iMac g5s with the combo drive... I have a dvd that I really want to rip and burn, but I can't figure it out and he doesn't know how to use his computer. Anyone know what program I would use and how to do this?

DVDs are protected against things like ripping.....
