Unhappy ok all you nurse and doctor types. I have a question (ladies)

okee. I got my period 2 weeks early. It may be a fuckup with my birth control, but it's been almost 8 days and I'm still bleeding. I am taking a frequent dose of ibuprofen for the pain (I'm sick with a pretty bad cold w/ a fever). I know Advil is a blood thinner and thus prolongs your period, but I'm taking ibuprofen. I'm getting fucking sick of bleeding and having cramps when I'm trying to get over this cold. Have any of you gotten your period early and bleed like a motherfucker from ibuprofen? I called the ontario telehealth line (you talk to RN's and then tell you whether you should go to the doctor/hospital) and they're going to call back in like 2 hours or something. NETPHORIA, I NEED YOUR HELP

A bit off topic, but...

I'm always worried when my sister gets her period. She has a tendency to pass out when she has hers, or at least get dizzy to the point where she's more or less inoperative.

I remember the first time I saw her pass out...she just collapsed right in front of one of our house plants. About cracked her skull open...it was scary.

I still dunno why this happens.

It is probably a medication thing and just a being sick thing. I totally skipped my last period (without intending to...I took all the placebo pills) and found out that doing so was basically normal and probably also slightly related to medication. Lots of little things can fuck up periods. Unless the bleeding is really heavy and you're in pain and it happens again or something, I wouldn't really worry about it (assuming, of course, that you don't have reason to believe that you are pregnant or have contracted an STD).

Any time you notice changes in the timing of bleeding when you are on the Pill, you are smart to question them. Bleeding during the time that you are taking tablets that contain hormones (also called "active pills") is called "breakthrough bleeding" and should be evaluated if it has become a pattern. Remember that taking your pill at the same time each day is important. Sometimes a late or missed pill can result in mid-cycle bleeding. If you are taking any new/other medications, be sure to let your gyno know because some Rx and over-the-counter meds can affect the Pill. To be on the safe side, using condoms as backup to the Pill until you have your concerns evaluated - or during any cycle when you experience unusual bleeding - is a good plan.

Take Tylenol. It doesn't thin your blood, unlike aspirin and ibuprofen, I think.

Being on the pill usually alleviates symptoms such as that (the pill is for much more than just birth control).

My mom rarely takes us to doctors, unless it's absolutely necessary. I really can't say why, either...maybe it's got something to do with her aversion to stem-cell vaccinations, but that's only a recent thing (she nearly exploded when she found out my little brother's chicken pox vaccine was made using stem cells)...She really doesn't take people to the doctor, including herself.

Never been a real reason, either...we take good care of ourselves. And it's not like my sister passes out ALL the time...it happens rarely. But she ought to one of these days...

i'm thinking she meant that plenty of girls are on the pill to regulate a scary period -- not specifically to prevent babies. and what you described sounds like reason enough for her to try it.

I was under the impression that being on the pill fucks up your reproductive system; i.e.: fools your body into thinking that it's preggers, which can cause problems...

I don't profess to be an expert on the matter, I'm just going with what I know.

I don't think the words Netphoria and help belong in the same sentence. Feel better, Desi..

HOW THE PILL WORKS
Combined pills keep the ovaries from an releasing egg (ovulation). Progestin-only pills can also prevent ovulation. But they work mainly by thickening the cervical mucus. This prevents the sperm from joining with an egg. Combination pills may also thicken the cervical mucus. Both types of pill can also prevent a fertilized egg from implanting in the uterus.

ADVANTAGES
The Pill is convenient to use, and women who use the Pill have:

more regular periods
less menstrual flow
less menstrual cramping
less iron deficiency anemia
fewer ectopic (tubal) pregnancies
less pelvic inflammatory disease (PID)
less acne
less premenstrual tension
The Pill offers significant risk reduction for ovarian and endometrial cancers. The Pill may offer some protection against osteoporosis.

Based on that info, it sounds a great deal like it fools your body into thining it's preggers to me.
