Thumbs down scheduling my day around rush hour

Basically, I try to stay away from the highway from 3-6 PM because it is so congested. I plan the events of the day to occur before or after these hours.
It really sucks.
Who else has to do this?
Of course I have to drive on the road at those times sometimes but it's really a pain and I try to avoid it.

I try to schedule leaving work either before or after those times to avoid I-4 traffic in Orlando.

i tend to schedule my trips to and from downtown on bus/subway around rush hours as well, simply because i don't like being smashed into an overcrowded subway car or not getting to sit.

Why not just sit on some cute person's lap?

http://www.cnn.com/2001/US/05/07/traffic.cities/

For Los Angeles, it takes the average person about twice as long to make a trip in rush-hour conditions. The other top 10 cities with the worst rush hours: Seattle, San Francisco, Washington and Boston (tie), New York, Chicago, Portland, San Diego and Atlanta.

Los Angeles also leads the Travel Rate Index, which also measures the difference between peak and off-peak travel, but only takes volume delays -- not accidents or other factors -- into account. The other top cities in that category were: San Francisco, Seattle, Washington, Chicago and San Diego (tie), Boston, Portland, and Atlanta and Las Vegas (tie).

Then there's the Annual Delay Per Person, measured in hours. The report crowns L.A. king here, too, with the average Angeleno spending 56 hours a year stuck in traffic. The rest of that list: Seattle and Atlanta, tied at 53 hours; Houston, 50; Dallas and Washington, 46; Denver and Austin, 45; St. Louis, 44; and Miami, 42.

It's strange because Austin isn't even a top 10 populated American city but it has the 7th most time spent idling in traffic whereas San Antonio is the 8th or 9th largest populated city yet ranks at number 39 for time spent idling in traffic.
I guess that's because in San Antonio you travel in circles using 410, 1604, etc.
In Austin you pretty much only have two highways going straight, 35 & Mopac.

I live in Chicago. Here we have what is called a 24/7 rush hour.
Unless its 3am on a Wednesday morning, you're gonna be stuck in traffic. I know every shortcut, express route, and side street to get anywhere in this city. I drive way too much. In the last two years I've put almost 40,000 miles on my car. I plan my life around driving conditions, it sucks.

Maybe you should stop scheduling drives on the highway and go shopping or something

Three. 183 as well. 290 goes east west, but that's only on the east side and in Westlake. But yeah, Austin traffic is shitty because people in West Austin didn't want anyone to build a loop around the city because it would make everything ugly. People from Westlake fuck everything up. Which is why hate austin so much. Besides the fact that the citizens are more impressed with the live music scene than the tourists.

True.
I love the live music scene though.
It's what brought me here.
I never saw any bands I liked in San Antonio because they never played there.

It's a good scene, don't get me wrong. But the newsmedia and the chamber of commerse acts like it's the greatest scene in the fucking world, when it's really a jack-of-all-trades scene. It's kind of stupid.

You know, San Antonio's local scene would be a lot better if someone burned down the White Rabbit. But it'd still be very metal.

Yeah they do. They even put little instrument ornaments down sixth street for the holidays. Bullshitting with that amount of hype really does help to spotlight south Texas though.
South By Southwest & Austin City Limits festival draws a lot of attention and are really fucking awesome events.

Poor San Antonio. The White Rabbit is shit.
San Antonio would be paradise for Fear Factory.
