I actually think I'm gonna head over to the comic store on the 2nd and see what's up. You've gotten me all worked up.

Perhaps I should start on my screen adaptation of Transmetropolitan post haste (starring Gary Oldman as Spider Jerusalem, Tom Sizemore as Mitchell Royce and Henry Rollins as President Bob Heller) .

Chris Claremont is emo? It's still better than being a fat fuck.

I dunno if it is or not. Being terminally faggy by continuing to read superhero comics in to adulthood while being an abominable austin emo fag is pretty bad.

Weren't you supposed to come down here to kick my ass?

Well actually I obviously don't read comics anymore if it even matters. If I remember correctly you wanted to kick my ass and I was supposed to come to trashy ass San Antonio. I don't really think there's anything lower than being a fat fuck this early in your life.

I don't really ever remember saying Austin is cool, but San Antonio on the other hand... I've said a lot about that. You guys just beat out Houston as the fattest town in America. You're doing an excellent job of fleshing out this little factoid.

Oh, the punnery and wordplay! Has The Bard Reincarnate graced these humble boards?

And for those of you excited about the Preacher project, I'd temper that excitement if our were you. This information is fairly old (and thus not extremely reliable), but I've read that James Marsden -- the smarmy fucktwat who stars as Cyclops in the X-Men franchise -- is dead-set and lobbying for the part of Jesse Custer. Also, the movie is to be directed by the same masterful person who directed Tank Girl. Hmm. I want the movie to be good, but...

yes, they are very under-rated, I loved how wacku 'tokyo' was. I hope that the series continues with different cities this new year.

In regards to superhero comics, of course. In regards to stuff like Preacher and Transmetropolitan, no. Comics is a valid artistic medium, but it has to break out of spandex clad supermen to progress. R. Crumb, Neil Gaiman, Garth Ennis, Warren Ellis, among many others have shown this to be true. Good comics writers only write the spandex stupidity when they need a pay check.

but you are contradicting yourself somewhat, the 'good' writers do not only write about superheroes to get a paycheck, they write about them if they have something new or interesting to say. look at Warren Ellis' 'Authority' run, one of the definitive superhero stories of the last few years, and he didn't write that just cos he wanted some cash, he wrote it because he had a great story to tell in a way that a superhero story had never been told, even more grandiose and deep than usual. Brian Michael Bendis is writing some amazing shit about Daredevil, and he is going places with that character that no writer is gone.
of course it's important that barriers get broken continuously in the graphic novel medium, but that doesn't mean that superheroes need to be ditched and grittier, more plausible stories need to be told only. there is room for everything in comics, and as long as there is still alot to say about spandex-clad men and women, then writers will continue to experiment

whilst Watchmen is classic, it is kind of a little too old now to be relevant to discussion about 'today's' comics.
