Arrow Computer troubles! Need help!

I am installing Windows XP....using the Upgrade function (because I can't lose important stuff on my harddrive, otherwise i'd do a clean install), from windows 98 (first edition)....and everytime it gets to 64 minutes (actually it did it at 63 this last time), it gives me a blue screen and has the fatal exception OE 0028:00000009 and terminates the installation. Is there anything I can do to fix this? I've tried to install it about 10 times now, with 2 different discs, and 2 different cd drives...restarted my computer each time too.

you don't lose your harddrive contents by doing a clean install.
it's just that all your windows settings will be lost.
Which means you might have to look for some new drivers for your hardware, and maybe setup your internet connection again.

xp = gay

and xp uses both fat32 and ntfs (or is it win2k im thinkin??) anywayz
if tehres an option when ur installing, choose fat32 so taht u can still access your old files

How big is this hd? Can't you just make a seperate partition on it for XP & put the files you want to save on the other partition?

All you need to do is pull any extranous hardware (i.e. sound card, nic, any SCSI). Make sure that you install the UDMA drivers during install, if you are using a SCSI IDE connection. Make sure you have enough HD space. And in Win98, uninstall pretty much all of your hardware.

And then upgrade. Try to boot from the CD.

If your primary partition is FAT32, you are going to have some issues. You will have to change it to either FAT16, or NTFS.

PM me if you need anymore help. Good luck!

u can upgrade from 98 to XP but it not a good thing to do. even if you did get it upgraded your going to have nothing but problems. get a new hard drive and install the full version of XP or get a burner and save all your shit then format your old drive and install XP.

he obviously has no easy way of backing up his files, or he just would have done a clean install in the first place. thus, people are suggesting he buys another harddrive so that after he installs full xp on the new one, he can access his old files from the original harddrive. well, that would by my guess, anywho.

if your data is that important, why aren't you backing it up anyway?

Make sure you rename My Documents, or move anything in My Documents into another folder. It will write over anything in there.

I guess I trust my computer too much.

But I have like 45 gigs of stuff I'll need to back up LOL...so that's not gonna be an easy task....I'm going to see if my 2nd cousin has any extra harddrives laying around so that I can back stuff up on it....

seriously..
just move your 'my documents' crap, and do a clean install.
it's not going to format your harddisk, so all your files will be preserved.
