Question Titus Andronicus/Titus or Romeo and Juliet/(Baz Luhrman's)

I have a choice to make. I can either read Titus Andronicus, watch the movie Titus, and compare/contrast/analyze/whatever those......or I can read Romeo and Juliet, watch the movie, and compare/contrast/analyze/whatever the two of those.

I've never read either of them, and I'd never even heard of Titus Andronicus before today.

For those of you who are familiar with both, which did you prefer? And which movie is better? I saw R+J many years ago but don't really remember it.

i never read the other one but Romeo and Juliet is my favorite play ever, as cliched as that is.

...and it would likely be an easier read since I already know the story.

I heard Titus is really good. Baz's adaptation is pretty funky (though the misplacement of "Fie Apocrathy, thy drugs are quick." is kinda stupid.)

if I were you I'd do Fight Club

If that were an option, I'd totally do it.

Nah, these are our only two options. And I was thinking that same thing. She'd probably appreciate it if everyone didn't do the same one.

I would do Titus - I love the play and I played the title role last year at school. (in addition to playing him again in this year's 'the complete works of william shakespeare abridged' - where three guys try to put on every play by william, its one of the funniest plays i have done. Titus is done as a cooking show.)

If you haven't read Titus, its basically a revenge story. These two dudes rape his daughter, and then cut off her hands and cut out her tounge. He gets back at them by killing them, cooking them, and then serving them to their mother.

The movie was fucking awesome - except for one very cringe worthy shot at the end where time shops and they do a matrix kind of shooting somebody (with a gun, yes. I don't want to say more if you haven't seen it.)

Julie Taymore's adaptation of Titus is a visual feast.
