Red face my mom gave me a record/cd/cassette player

Check it out: http://www.ammtech.com/giphone.htm

She is the awesomest.
I am NOW officially the indiest kid on the block.
In Austin, that's pretty hard to be.
It wasn't even a christmas gift, she just gave it to me yesterday.
I only have two vinyls though, Hum's Downward Is Heavenward & Sunny Day Real Estate's Diary. My friend has Neutral Milk Hotel's In The Aeroplane Over The Sea and we listened to that last night together.

Am I the only one who thinks saying "I got a vinyl" sounds dumb? I don't even know why, but it just doesn't sound right to me. Like when my old roommate would see all the records and go "Oooh, vinyls!" She'd buy like 5 records that she'd never play because she'd never actually owned a record player. I just call 'em record. But then I also say "pop" more often than I say "soda."

i call them records, or LP's / 7"s if i need to specify the format. i never say 45 though.

i guess if i have to refer to both LP and 7" formats though, i'll say vinyl.

I think you are supposed to use the word 'vinyl' when you are referring to the media the album is on and when you are referring to the album itself you call it a record or an LP.

Don't play any vinyl on that piece of shit. Do you have any idea how much damage a cheap stylus improperly aligned with incorrect tracking force causes to an LP? After you listen to an LP on there about 3 times it will be totally ragged out. And that means less used vinyl for those of us who actually enjoy listening to LPs.

I figured that out by reading the features list:

"Plays at 33 1/3 and 45 speeds"

If that is the only specification listed, it is a piece of shit for playing LP's.If the whole thing costs $200, how much money do you think is left for the manufacturer to spend on the phono section after spending money on the CD,Cassette,Tuner and all the wood and woodworking/assembly,advertising,packaging shipping of raw materials, wiring, etc, etc? Probably about $5 tops. Obviously this is not meant to be high end music reproduction by any means. I'm not knocking this thing or the person buying it as it may suit many people's needs just fine. It's just sad to see all those LPs destroyed, in the sense that I am greedy and like to dig through used records at Goodwill, garage sales, and record shops to find some nice LPs.

Ah okay, I know, I was just asking I don't know anything about that kind of stuff is why I asked. But yeah I don't want Tony's stuff to get messed up.
