not always. my parents both worked really really hard for what they have. my dad used to live in his car. my mom worked in a clinic in bolivia. Although they value what they have, they know what it's like to be poor and feel guilty when they do or have something that is obviously affluent. When we went to mexico this summer, we stayed in the nicest place in cancun. no joke. tony blair stays there when he goes. it was too much for my mom and dad. especially because whenever we left the resort and went to town, we were surrounded by hard working mexicans who lived off of nothing. they felt guilty. yeah they worked really hard in life to be able to take vacations like that, but do they NEED to stay at that resort? do they NEED to spend $3 on a coke because they can? do they NEED to eat expensive meals? not at all. we all went home feeling kind of dissapointed in the trip. we have much better times when we stay in modest rented houses in belize and buy groceries to make our meals.

sometimes i am embarassed to be rich. becuase i'm not rich. my parents are, and they choose to do whatever they can to make my life better with what they've earned and not a day goes by that i dont recognize that and appreciate it. I was born in a nasty mexican ghetto. now we live in a nice neighborhood, not a huge house, but a nice one. you couldnt tell by my dads car and his clothes how rich they are and i think that's good. they've put the money towards taking us on vacations and exposing us to things, and towards my education. and i love them for it.

Thats a good way to look at things.
