Angry So... I attempted to cook a little chicken...

And I took him out after about 2hrs (350 degrees), and made a cut where the leg is and the fluids ran clear, so I thought yeah it's ready... but the inside was all googy red bloody stuff. So, after much debate I cut the other side which was also clear, but that somehow caused the first cut to run blood?? so I stuck it back in, for another 30 min... and it was still bloody. I think I'm just going to throw the chicken out. blah.

I can make really good turkey but my chickens alway suck

Someone (one of you wonderful cooks out there) tell me what I did wrong.

Yeah. Last time I tried to cook a chicken I accidently cooked him upside down (butt up in the air) and it wasn't very good at all. We ended up throwing it out. I think I should just give up cooking chicken, it's pretty much hopeless.

That's actually a good way to cook it... it's causes all the juices to flow to the breast, making it alot tastier. My dad cooks the Thanksgiving turkey upside down every year, and it's awesome.

I dunno what you did wrong though.. I've never attempted to cook a whole bird. Perhaps next time, use a meat thermometer to measure the inside temperature. If the outside was well cooked but the inside was not, try cooking it longer at a lower temperature.

That's about all I can think of. But like I said, I've never attempted it.

Gracias I think I tried to rush it and thought 'oh it's just a little bird, it won't take that long!'. It's back out of the oven and I think it's finally done. We'll see.... if not, it's going to the cat.

But they eat raw animals (birds, mice....) ..... hmm. I think the chicken's ok, so I don't have to worry about it.

I just bought a meat thermometer so I can feel better about when I cook stuff like burgers and whole chickens.

To avoid that problem, I usually just cook chicken breasts or legs... not the whole thing.

Let us know when you attempt it again and if it works better!

These chickens are offended by your constant mistaken assumptions about their genders, that's what's wrong.

How long did you cook it and at what temperature? It sounds like maybe too short a time and too high heat

See, I think that's where I screwed up - I had it on 350, but only cooked it for like a little over an hour... I was trying to compare it to how long I cooked a turkey. I don't know, after I put it back in for like another hour it was good to go.

350 should be fine... was it thawed? How many lbs was it?

usually I'll go an hour and a half on a 5-7 lb chicken (thawed)
