Post Streaming BBC debate from Miami - some big names

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programme...me/default.stm
(Streaming video link here)

I don't know if anyone's seen Question Time before, but it's basically a debate show where the audience pose questions to a panel and they debate (or argue) amongst themselves and with the audience. The host usually does a good job of keeping the panel in check and on point and it's worth watching. They were in Miami today due to the upcoming election, so it might be of interest to a few people here (it was on BBC World too apparently). Here's who was on:

Michael Moore
Former speechwriter to George W Bush David Frum
Former advisor to President Clinton Sidney Blumenthal
Journalist Richard Littlejohn (yeah, for a shitty tabloid)
Lida Rodriguez-Taseff, chair of the Miami-Dade Electoral Reform Coalition.

It's a good crowd, good balance of viewpoints from the sound of things, and damn Bush's ex-speech writer and Clinton's former advisor are slimy dudes. Especially the latter. It also might give a few clues as to why people are planning to vote a particular way. It's about an hour long, you'll have to skip 2 minutes of Crimewatch at the start (unless you're into that sort of thing )

Has anyone actually watched this? It has people shouting at Michael Moore, how can you say no?

shit theyre pretty rowdy. i dont really like having them be so vicious. the crowd i mean, its so ugly. some of the best panel shows ive seen have been on cable access, where they dont care about ratings at all and have a 2 hour show with old men chatting quietly. i hate how learning on tv has becomes so cheap and sensationalized. i like my information slow and boring

There is a lot of shouting, but it's live and they only have an hour so they can't really stop the show until people settle down. I think the presenter does a really good job of telling people when they need to shut up and let someone speak.

Generally it's not as rowdy in the UK. Loudmouth Americans

Oh come on, Lee. Not as rowdy? Wheneven I see Blair in some "debate" or whatever in Parliament, there's always people shouting at him.

I meant this show - but yeah, I hate that shit in Parliament. One guy trash talks while all his friends are sat behind him going 'yeah! yeah!' and then the others do it. Reminds me of school.

Actually the sophisticated accents make it sound like 'burr! burr!'. Reminds me of Ironside

i think canadian parliment is even worse. its really pathetic seeing them bicker. i wonder if they know that whole country thinks theyre acting like children. i flip over to cpac, which is the canadian equivalent of cspan, all the time and it always one guy yelling out a point and as soon as he gets to his second word all of the opposition are rolling their eyes and yelling "naaah, naah, yeah right." they do this thing where they pound on their desks too if theyre happy or pleased with something. the whole thing is like a zoo, it makes sense that kramer liked to tape canadian parliment on seinfeld

but you also get a lot of politicians sleeping, which i seriously think is probably the funniest single thing i can name. it lightens my day just to think of it

Yeah you get people sleeping in the UK, especially in the House of Lords I think. But there's usually people speaking even during the quiet parts of the day, and it kinda makes me sad that people are there trying to bring up issues they feel are important to their constituents, in the only time slot they could get, and there's basically nobody there and half of them are just taking a nap. It would be great if one of them slept right through to the middle of a huge debate though, just to see the guy wake up

This is totally irrelevant, but the other day I had a chance to say my opinion for this reporter and supposedly it was going to be broadcasted over the whole of Europe. This was at my university - FIU. And I thought about it. And I thought, "I do'nt want to look like an idiot." So I didn't do it.
