Yes!! I used to be in a band that used synths and it was the most fun thing ever.
Then I got kicked out of the band and replaced by a drum machine Fuck you new wave band |

if you don't need to use it to play live, i would recommend getting a midi-controller keyboard and hooking it up to some virtual synths on your computer that you can pirate for free... although if you have the money, get something nice, maybe a korg, or a novation... roland makes good ones too, but often very expensive
