Arrow The official baseball playoffs thread.

Let's keep this going right through the World Series.

I'm a bit surprised the A's didn't pull it off in the bottom of the ninth today after stranding two runners.

And here's to somebody besides the Yankees and the Braves playing in the Series.

Great idea. Are you into this "Greatest Moment in Baseball History" thing. I totally am.

My unbiased (ie, non-Twins) choice is the 1986 World Series Game 6. Look away if you are a Red Sox fan, but ya know the game: "It gets through Buckner."

Fuck the Yankees is damn right. Bastards are about to pull off another one.

But I'm not anti-Braves. I think there's something to be said for a team who has managed to keep 3 of the best pitchers of our generation together for a decade now.

I also think they will cruise to the World Series for a 1991 rematch with the Twins. We can only hope that if it actually happens we have another classic 10-inning, 7th game in which the Twins win 1-0. Fat chance I know.

A great baseball moment that game was.

A better moment from that post-season though came in Game 7 of the NLCS: Sid Bream sliding into home plate on Fransico Cabrera's series-clinching pinch hit. I can still hear the announcer in a state of shock screaming "He is SAFE!"

That's so weird, I was thinking of making this same exact thread earlier today.

That said, I'm glad the Twins won and that the Cards are winning.

Oh and yea, the magic reigns on in NY.

Sorry Mayfuck, theman123234, rest of you SoCal people.

The greatest moment in baseball thing looks really cool. Partly because I am a nostalgic sap.

However, I am still bitter about the lack of Boston in the playoffs. Laugh all you want...but the Yankees must be usurped in the AL East soon!

Greatest baseball moment? Where the hell is Nolan Ryan's name in this thread:

- 5,000 strike out
- 7th no hitter
- Beating the shit out of Robin Ventura
- Being hit in the mouth with a line drive and then striking out the side with a bleeding face.

All classic. Too bad he played for a shitty team when it all happend.

I missed the A's game earlier then I saw the TV and I thought for sure things were going good. Then i decided to get some milk and then I see Guardado inducing a pop-up to end the game. Ah well. If not the A's, then at least the twins.

I still fucking hate the Yankees. It's a long shot to hope for the Angels, but hopefully someone will keep those pinstriped fucks out of the World Series again.

When you can buy a lineup like that, I wouldn't call it "magic" really. It's the Angels anyway.

Ah yes, the Bo Jackson liner.

Things I will never forget:

Lonnie Smith being fooled by Chuck Knoblauch when rounding 2nd base in game 7 of the 1991 World Series. Had he not been in a coke-induced haze, he would have noticed that Knoblauch did NOT have the fucking ball, would have wound up at 3rd, and would have scored - making the Braves the 1991 Champs.

Of course, Sid Bream's hobbled race towards home plate in game 7 of the NLCS. He is... SAFE! BRAVES WIN! BRAVES WIN! BRAVES WIN!

Deion Sanders being tagged out, but called safe in what would have been the final out of a triple play in the 1992 World Series.

The Braves acquiring Fred McGriff from the Padres in mid-1993 and the fire in the announcer's booth the day he arrived, in which the Braves went on a tear and won 104 games, edging out the Giants, who won 103.

Joe Carter's walk-off home run in game 6 of the 1993 World Series off of Mitch Williams.

THE CANCELLATION OF THE REMAINDER OF THE 1994 SEASON IN WHICH TONY GWYNN WAS GOING FOR .400! FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK YOU OWNERS AND PLAYERS!

The Braves winning the 1995 World Series against the Indians, especially game 6, which was won by David Justice's solo home run and 8 shutout innings pitched by Tom Glavine.

The 1996 NLCS, Braves go down 3 games to 1, then storm back to kick the holy living shit out of the cardinals in the next two games, then win the final game 4-0 behind Greg Maddux.

The 1996 World Series, in which the Braves squandered a 2-1 series lead AND a 6-0 lead in game 4. Way to go, Mark Wohlers. I hope you join Lonnie Smith in hell.

The 1997 NLCS in which that fat fuck, eric gregg cost the Braves the series with his horrible calls.

Fear Factory, in case you didn't notice we actually agree on something: Sid Bream's slide into home is one of the best damn moment in baseball history no matter what anyone else says.

That is just such an indelible image - him sliding into home plate. Who was the announcer. That's what I was tyring to remember. "He is SAFE!" Woah. I'm getting way too nostalgic.

By the way, the Braves blew a 2-0 series lead in 1996. They won the first two at Yankee Stadium before losing 4 in a row. I thought Wohlers' gaff came in game 3 but maybe you are right about that part.

I was but a wee sprout when Bream did that, but he was my "first" favorite player. Remembre how the Braves used to run highlights lack that before the start of games? It gave me goosebumps every time!

The World Series thing was great too, especially since Justice had lambasted the fans earlier and they all had signs saying "Put your bat where your mouth is."

Who could forget Kirk Gibson's walk-off homerun in 1988? At least I think it was '98....

I can remember him hobbling around the bases doing that crazy fist-pull move...

Hey, how about adding to the list: Giants presently beating the crap out of the Braves?
