First off: good on you, Tommy, for reading work-related email while on vacation! :-)

OK, I get the situation; Tommy is tasked with getting the machines out the door and into classrooms, at which time the LSPs take over entirely and completely. That's cool.

But I'm not sure it's the right long-term solution. I have a couple of reasons for this, the main one being that the equipment (so far as I understand it) does not "belong" to the LSP that's maintaining it. For example, the Manning 340 and 420 smart carts are not on the Nursing inventory, but I'm apparently responsible for their upkeep.

Well, what's the big deal there? I mean, I'm responsible for the Nursing TigerLAN machines, and those aren't on the Nursing inventory. Except that Bogdan creates new images, with updates and patches, every semester. And that's what I'm getting at: unless I am mistaken, the classroom PCs are supposed to have a standard software load for reasons similar to why the TigerLAN PCs have a standard software load, for reasons of security if nothing else.

The two stances (smart cart vs. TigerLAN) seem inconsistent to me. Not trying to make more work for Tommy here, but if the machines are CS "owned" (like TigerLAN boxen) then it seems like it would be CS' responsibility to make sure they're patched properly, at least to the level of handing out DVDs with new images like Bogdan does.

Does any of this make sense? Maybe I'll look at it differently in the morning.

No difference wither way, I guess; I've started building a new SX 270 image of my own for the Manning carts. Will share with those who want it.
