Default So,... School Literary Magazine. Should I?

I've been talking a big game game. Quitting my job. Finding something closer to my major - you know, something that involves writing or words of the English variety. An email got shot over to me that my school's literary magazine is restaffing for the year, and you know, this might be a good idea.

What do you guys think? Have any of you ever been on something like this?

I know. But it's better than getting a shitload of customers who don't realize that Ashlee Simpson is in the front of the fucking store as you walk in and have to hassle me about it.

Yeah, do some work more-related to your major. It will help you find something to do after college.

Oh, no doubt, but the question is, should it be the lit. magazine?

The answer to that question depends on what other literary ventures are available in your school, and what interests you.

It sounds like you're not all that interested in this magazine.

Maybe, but he sounds like he enjoys his current job even less.

My answer to Sehki is Why the hell not? Even if it's not totally your style, it's closer to it than peddling Ashlee Simpson, and it can't hurt to have as experience under your belt. Would the magazine's pay sufficient for your needs?

No idea about the pay. I guess I'll go to the initial meeting thing next week, see what's up, see what info I can gather.

Yeah, I mean, I'm not that big into the lit. magazine, but it's a lot closer to what I do want to do than peddling Ashlee. God I hate my CD store so incredibly much.

If it's through school, you're not gonna be paid shit - even if you do get paid

That's what I figured. At this point, the pay isn't that big a deal, it's more just about the experience.

Should you? Should you what, exactly?

Get the job and then immediately burn the facility down? Absolutely.

... should I join!

The real question is, mostly to myself, if I can get something closer to what I want or was envisioning. I wasn't really looking for something through the school, but it might be good anyhow.

AT THE VERY LEAST, IT WILL LOOK GOOD ON PAPER. WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO LOSE? GO FOR IT.

I was the club president for my literary magazine thing. Not that it was really a "club" thing. Anyway, so all I did was go once a month to meetings and report back to the Prof.

Yeah, but it sounds impressive.

I was the Club President for Miami-Dade's Literary Magazine. Look at all those proper nouns!

Thing I have to lose: Time, and opportunity for another, perhaps better and more interesting (re: no shit poetry) internship/job thing.

Of course, if I don't act, I may miss one of the better opportunities as well (i.e, the magazine)!

So it's like, hope for something better? Or go with this?

Isn't there a position where you can participate as little as possible? I mean, I'm sure the whole gig is a student volunteer thing, so maybe you can do something small.

Hey, if you really find an internship/job thing that's better than the magazine, just dump it. But in the meantime...

Anyway, or why don't you just try and find something better now and if you can't then you can always fall back on the magazine.

See, I rely on emails from the English undergrad dept. on internships and so on. They're sent out every couple of days. So I'll wait and see if anything interesting comes in the next couple days. *shrug*
