Question can you condition yourself to get less sleep?

I mean, if I usually get, say, 9 hours of sleep a day, but want to start getting only 5 or 6, can I do that? Or do certain people just *need* more sleep? Would that be really bad for you? I always feel like I'm wasting my time by sleeping. or something. How much sleep do you average a night?

err i don't know. but i know that for periods of time I will go with significantly less sleep than i'm used to, like 6 hours vs. 8-9 hours. and after the first couple of days my body adjusts nicely. However it will only last maybe 3 weeks at a time andmy schedule opens up so i sleep more.

I think it's theorized that you age not by how long you've been out of the womb, but how long you've been awake. That probably explains why I've been mistaken for my mid twenties.

Ask anyone who ever worked for a college newspaper whether you can condition yourself to get less sleep: the answer is HELL yes.

I averaged 5 hours sleep for three years.

Now I'm back to needing 8.

maybe if you would like to adjust your sleeping pattern you should try different variations. like try going a few days with 6 hours of sleep. try a few days with 8 hours of sleep and so on and so forth and find what you're comfortable with and can function with. most people either don't get enough sleep or they oversleep. it's all about finding out what's right for your body.

i am a fully functioning insomniac. for example: the last few months i've only been sleeping maybe 10-15 hours total a week. it doesn't affect my ability to function in any way. it's not that i don't have time to sleep or that i have better things to do - i just don't get sleepy. when i do get sleepy - i lie down. and usually it's for a few hours and then i'm back up for days. while this may seem ridiculous to someone else - it's what works for me.

It used to be that I couldn't get to sleep until three or four hours before I needed to get up. Lately, however, I just want to sleep more and more. I'm finding it increasingly harder to even drag myself out of bed in the mornings...

i find that the more sleeping you do, the more you want it.

By the age of 30, you will look like 50 years old.
Stop doing that, it's not healthy. Now go sleep!

Thats actually quite interesting. I'm 20 but could pass for 16 or so, and I've always slept incredibly long hours.
