Modest mouse played a kings island yesterday

i can understand late night shows and i know they're super big now. but to play a kings island, wtf. they're definitely milking their time in the sun while they can though and they're still playing good music so good for them. It's funny to think of them stumbling out on stage after using speed to play in a theme park.

so i saw them tonight at this q101 block party in chicago with apparently, thought i doubt it, 12,000 other people. It was the walkmen, death cab, and modest mouse headlining. It was really weird to see everyone get super excited when they played float on but to be stumped when they played a mostly old song set, so then everyone went to buy 10 ounce, $5 cups of beer and stand around. my girlfriend couldnt' see shit over everyone around us and i felt pretty bad. if modest mouse weren't so damn awesome i would had been really pissed to have been there. i really hated being in a field with that many people so they could all dance to the single. This isnt' the first time this has happened in recent music history, i know, but being from a small town, i can avoid these types of groups of people and i usually dont' go to shows like this.

it felt so weird. that's all. I still have a lot of mixed feelings about the whole thing. : /
