Thumbs down AI is a lame movie

i rented it cause i thought it looked interesting and never saw it at the theatre. so anyways. there were some really cool ideas, which i will now list:

gigolo joe (what a playa)
teddy (i fucking love that bear!!)
rouge city
the robot battle arena thing
submerged manhattan
the aliens

everything else, primarily the story, was lame. the film plodded along for too long and the ending was one of the worst i've ever seen- they couldn't find a "realistic" conclusion that was happy.
so the aliens reconstruct david's "mother" and he goes to sleep for whatever reason just after she's died, with no explanation about what he does when he wakes up. and, more importantly, teddy, who is the real fucking hero, is just left sitting around like a deserted cunt. poor teddy. fuck hellboy, teddy deserves his own spinoff action movie.

it was okay. but i really like spielbergs take on the future in Minority Report; i could totally envision the future ending up like that

Confused and annoying. Like me. I just love how there's a transition towards the end where you can go, "Okay, Kubrick died riiiiiight...HERE!" And then it begins to suck superhuman portions of ass.

(im pretty sure) kubrick died before the film was in even the earliest of development stages. spielberg directed all of it

Quite true. And in fact, the screenplay ended up being mostly Spielberg's work. Still funny, tho'.

Incidentally, considering the robot gigolo thing, that flick is begging to be made into a porno.

wtf? I like how you respond to a post that showed your previous post to be completely wrong by simply agreeing and not trying to explain your earlier statement.

I'm glad you like that. You sure have my goolies in a vice, right enough.
Do I really have to explain this?
I said,
you can go, "Okay, Kubrick died riiiiiight...HERE!"

I did not say that Kubrick died there.
I did not say that the aforementioned transition bore any relation to the actual timeline of the production of the film.
I was merely pointing out that if you knew that the film was a "combined effort" of Spielberg's and Kubrick's, that the transition seemed, in a humourous fashion, to indicate an imaginary scenario wherein Kubrick suddenly died and Spielberg rushed in to finish the movie.

Teddy was the only good character in that movie.

Yes, you did have to explain that. Your original post strongly implied that you thought Kubrick died sometime during the project even though you have now indicated that is not what you meant.

Thanks for the explanation.

When I left the theatre I was very disappointed by the ending, but after thinking about it for a while, and seeing it a second time a few months later, I have decided it is good. It raises two important issues: at what point should we care about or give rights to things we create, and what might the ultimate end of our progress be?

Overall I enjoyed the movie. The scenes of David trying to fit in with the family, Monica's conflicting feelings, Martin's reactions to his new brother were all well done. The father was the only character I felt that was not fleshed out properly.

The whole Pinocchio correlation was also an interesting plot mover & it had some large themes that at least provoked some discussion/thought despite not being anywhere near as relevant as something like Gattaca with it's more current themes of Genetics. A.I. also looked great throughout.

I'll agree the final advanced mecha scenes were grating only because it didn't push any of the ideas of the movie any further but only subdued the viewer's need to see David get his 'happy' ending. Ending the movie rather at the bottom of the Ocean in NYC would have been perfect IMO. I still enjoyed it a lot. The DVD was a tad dissapointing (but nowhere near as bad as Gattaca's flimsy DVD release).

Yeah, I thought the movie was over when that scene happened. And I was impressed.
