Yeah, it happens to me. I find that the tighter the string gets, the better it stays in. So by the time you have full tension it should stay. (Though at that point I grind it down with my thumb to make sure, and then I have a pin-shaped indentation in my thumb.)

damn, this is really irritating!! i loosened it up so that i could push the pin in all the way. then i held it in with the remote (harder than my poor thumb), and tightened it all the way, hoping the tension would help me out. no go, it came right out. argh!!

it's never been a problem for me once the string is all the way strung... i don't really know what the problem might be for you.

i put a piece of scotch tape around the pin to made it a little thicker, and it seems to be holding for now. *crosses fingers*

That's clever -- let me know how it works out. It's a fear of mine that this will happen to me some day.

I put the guitar string in and then the pin. Then after you thread it though the tuner just tighten the string while using your other hand to hold down the pin to keep it from popping up. By the time you get the string up to pitch it should stick by itself.

I have a banged up acoustic (well sort of), so I used to hammer the pin down. But it doesn't happens anymore. So I don't hammer it.

Yeah I poke the wee metal ball thingy and the end of the string through the hole, then put like a small book or something on it which I press down on while tightening the string so I don't get that 'hole in my finger' thing going on.

what? why? dont do that. me and my friend once found an ibanez bass and a fender acoustic which had both been maliciously destroyed. my friends a guitarist. he nearly cried.

Essentially it represents my childish hatred of my parents for not supporting my musical interest, i came so close to never touching a musical instrument again because of that episode and that guitar. I was always the 'science' child.

*spits.

Yeah this is pretty much it. Except I need 3 hands to string it - one to hold the peg, one to turn the tuner and one to get the string to wrap neatly aroudn the tuning peg. I think the locking tuners on my electric have spoiled me

speaking of busting up guitars, my friends and i bashed this old acoustic guitar real bad. it was awesome.
it had symbolic meaning as well because the owner of the guitar had been lying to my friend for like 8 months and it's really a long story i'd like not to explain.
