Talking My mom purchased a pirated copy of The Passion of the Christ.

She's going to hell.

We just watched it. I can't help but feel that the fundamental conservative Christians have ruined the concept of Jesus for me.
The great uniter of the world has also become the greatest divider of the world. You're either with Jesus or you're against him. At least according to the conservative fundamentalist Christians.

I don't understand how groups of stupid people can ruin anything for anyone.

Just as Christ is the King of Kings, the pirating of The Passion is the irony of ironies.

My favorite part of that movie was the very last scene, when the music sounded vaguely Terminator-esque and we get that profile shot of Jesus rising in front of a pitch-black background, and then that view of the holes in his hands. It looked like he was going to kick some ass. Some heathen ass.

Talking

Throughout the movie my mom kept saying "I'm falling asleep." I guess it must have been boring to my mom. She's hardcore like that. <3 my mom.

In my culture, we have this game, not unlike Rock, Paper, Scissors, called "Narcolepsy, Faith-derived-from-baseless-guilt-and-fear, and Common Sense."

Narcolepsy always trumps Faith-derived-from-baseless-guilt-and-fear. So your mom's experiences don't surprise me.

I never said the movie itself divided. I couldn't appreciate it because my thoughts and beliefs about the external reality associated with Jesus affected my perception of the movie.

The movie really wasn't about any of that though, and in fact wasn't even overly "religious." I think moreso it was the story of a man's suffering. If you take out the Satan parts and the last 30 seconds of the film, there would be nothing non-human about Jesus.

True, true. However, you must admit that the Christian religion is the largest and most popular religion in the world. It also has deep ties with our government.

i'm not arguing with you on that point except that it's mostly the US where it is the most popular but if you go to the middle east you will find the same thing w/ islam. it's just that you happen to live in the western world

I don't disagree with that.
